Sorocaba - The fit city
Sorocaba is a southeastern Brazilian city and one of the largest cities in the State of Sao Paolo. The City has a population of approximately 0.57 million residents. Sorocaba began as a village settlement in 1654 and was officially granted city status in 1842.
Sorocaba has a well developed road network linking it to other cities and towns in Sao Paolo. There is also a rail link from between the city and Sao Paolo which travels as far as Argentina carrying mainly export goods. The city is served by the Sorocaba airport.
Tourism in Sorocaba:
The City has a fairly developed tourism infrastructure with a selection of affordable hotels and motels, restaurants and night clubs for entertainment. The Ibis Sorocaba is probably the best hotel in the city. You can also find quality accommodation in nearby Sao Paolo City. Apart from this the city does not have much to offer in terms of tourist attractions.
Located in the Interior of São Paulo State, far 90 kilometers from the Capital of the State, Sorocaba is the headquarters of a region that is responsible by 2,5% of the Gross Domestic Product (PIB).
With 1.200 industries of great or average size and about 8.000 commercial establishments, the city today occupies a position of prominence in the national economic scene.
The State of Sao Paulo itself is one of the most prosperous in Brazil, home to a number of industries, rich farmlands, developed transport infrastructure and an abundance of skilled labor. Major industries in Sorocaba produce: iron and steel products, chemicals, farming equipment and machinery, textiles, cement and motor vehicle spares.
This privileged condition is resulted of a good urban structure, associated to a strategical localization, among others factors. The industrial zone of Sorocaba is considered one of most complete of the Country. The industries has some improvements as tarred accesses, illumination, collection of garbage, collective transport and canalized water.
Beyond the proximity with São Paulo, Sorocaba has an excellent road linking with the Capital and the Interior of the State, through two highways - the "Castelo Branco" and the "Raposo Tavares", that skirt the urban perimeter of the city, to few kilometers of the commercial center and the industrial zone. Still in the area of transports, Sorocaba is served by a railroad, that linking with the port of Santos for the load transport provides, and by an airport total paved and endowed with illumination? therefore, with functioning 24 hours.
