Sea plane tours in Manaus

by srimelodies

We are visiting Manaus on 26 December for a couple of days. The sea plane tours look interesting but I heard that it may be raining at that time. Generally, Does it rain throughout the day every day or is it just on and off and do the seaplane tours still operate when it is not raining? I am also looking into the site-seeing day tours to the "Meeting of the Rivers","Allegator Spotting", "Dolphins", etc. by boat..Any advise on the sea plane tours and the boat rides including the tour operators will be greatly appreciated.

Based on what you had posted in a previous thread, you and your mother might enjoy a tour using a floatplane. Remember that most likely you will be in a small aircraft vintage aircraft with cramped seating and a very noisy operating enviroment. Rain is always hard to predict; after all you will be in the rainforest, so it will rain frequently even in "dry season".

A word of caution, though, you won't see any wildlife from a floatplane - most of the wildlife is quite small and is best seen from a boat running close to the river banks (preferably early in the morning or around sundown), when the activity will be the highest. If you do take a boat tour, smaller boats tend to be better, as they can get closer to shore, but won't offer the same comfort level as the larger ones. My previous warnings regarding mosquitos still apply.

Thank you! I really appreciate all your advise. I am considering both the boat trip and sea plane tours (if possible) for multiple views. Also, I am planning for Yellow Fever vaccinations and other Vaccinations required..(need to contact travel clinic)

Travel Tips for Manaus

Guarana.....Best in Manaus!

by Kaz354

If youre in Brazil, you must try Guarana drinks, made from amazon berries. Im Manaus, you get different brands of Guarana, rather than the national Guarana brands. If youre in Manaus, buy the "Regente" brand Guarana. The taste is a million times better. They come in these recycled bottles, but the taste is more than satisfactory. If youve tasted Guarana Antartica, Regente doesnt even compare.

arrange to go out and explore...

by pjallittle

arrange to go out and explore the backwaters with an experienced guide. He'll take you out in one kind of boat and then eventually transfer into a smaller vessel that is capable of getting through the deeper parts of the jungle where it is shallower.

If you get lucky, or unlucky if your leg is in the water, you'll see a crocodile or two. No disrespect intended, but the place is crowded, not really terribly fascinating. e stayed at the Tropical Hotel, allegedly a 5 star, beautiful grounds but a very old and outdated dark room with dark furniture.

It is also a long ways from town, not that there's a whole lot in town. This was,and still is, really an industrial town, all things considered and was not built for tourists. All of the small villages deep within come here in boats for their supplies and with their wares.

As a practical matter, this is like any town along the Mississippi.

see the river

by lomi

take a cruise or excursion to see the river. keep your hands in the boat, wear long sleeved clothes and never, never pee in the river!

Electric eels, stingrays & piranhas apart, the world's largest snake, the anaconda drags its pray under the water, drowns it and swallows it whole.

Here's your Amazonian food challenge...

by morgane1692 about McD

AMBIENCE??? You want ambience, then what are you doing HERE?! This is McDonald's!!! But for a quick snack, it's there when you need it. It's EVERYWHERE, for crying out loud, even in the middle of the rainforest! Legend has it that some of the next castaways were *wishing* they had it so good, though...eeewwwwwww...;-}
