The hotel certainly belongs to a bygone time in terms of style and decoration of the rooms, but it's a nice hotel with all the necessary accomodations you need. I believe most rooms are not disturbed by traffic - mine was fine (remember Manaus is a city with two million people or more). The staff was welcoming and friendly.
Maybe my only request - They could have a couple more computers set up for internet surfing than the one they had when I was there.
Unique Quality: Well - a hotel is a hotel is a hotel. I tend to think that the fewer things that anoy you - the better it is. The Taj Mahal in Manaus has quiet rooms (big plus!), nice staff, and no major drawbacks really. They could consider refurbishing the rooms though.
