Best in town, I guess.
We spent 2 nights here at the hotel on the way in and out of town. They say it is the best hotel in town. The pool area looks nice, they have some nice shops, a zoo, a bar and tennis courts with a beach. But as far as stars go the rooms might muster a 2 stars, there is a business hotel next door I would stay there if i were you, it must be nicer.

Better than the original
The Tropical Manaus Business Hotel is a high–rise located a short walk from the Tropical Manaus itself. Rooms are about the same size as those in the original, but are better appointed. So far as I could tell, all rooms have a view of the Rio Negro. (From the original there are no views.)
The breakfast spread was excellent. We chose to eat dinner, however, in the Tropical Manaus itself.
In 1998, staying at the Tropical Manaus, I neglected to take some gems out of my shaving kit and put them into my in–room safe. I didn't notice they were missing until my next stop, Campo Grande.
In 2008, at the Tropical Manaus Business, I forgot to take an envelope out of an interior pocket in my briefcase. It held US$200 in cash, my parking ticket for a vehicle left at the San Francisco airport, and a house key. On our flight back to Rio de Janeiro I discovered it was missing.
These are the only two times in five visits to Brazil that I've been ripped off.
Unique Quality: Guests have full access to all the facilities, including restaurants, in the Tropical Manaus itself.

enjoyed the Tropical hotel
The Tropical is perhaps a bit over-rated, but never the less, we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were promptly serviced each day and the hotel staff seems very eager to keep everyone comfortable and happy.
the breakfast buffet is extremely nice, perhaps the only one we know that tops it is the Rex Hotel in Saigon (it is in a class of its own though!!).
we stayed at the Tropical in June (2007) for 4 weeks...
negative points...
transportaion into town or to the airport is very high.
the tours up river are priced much too high.
beware the hotel room mini-bars!!! it does add up fast!!!
the restaurants just outside the hotel grounds are extremely expensive...better to eat in Manaus.
Unique Quality: some other good points...
casual dress is acceptable in the hotel restaurant.
there is a nice little drug store in the hotel shopping center...it is pricey but still less expensive than traveling into town to get something.
the hotel grounds are great for jogging or walking.
the pool is a great place to relax and meet a lot of people from various countries.

Not bad, but it doesn't get better around there
Rated as an excellent hotel, it isn't nearly as good as you would expect, but a luxury when you're coming from the dirty town center.
We stayed there for less than half the price, and so should you, if you're brave enough to bargain for a while.
Clean rooms with TV, average food, nice pool. I don't really need any of this, especially when my bed for the next days is gonna be a hammock on a boat, but if you want comfort, it's a good and laidback option.
Plus, there is a zoo (!) inside, I don't really know why;but it has to be mentioned.

A hotel on the edge of the jungle
The service in this fairly expensive hotel was certainly up to standard. It is ideally situated outside of the city of Manaus in a quiet area alongside the Rio Negro
Unique Quality: The Tropical Manaus Hotel, the largest luxury hotel in Brazil, has over 600 rooms and is situated on the shore of the Rio Negro, in the heart of the Amazon, only 10km from the Manaus International Airport and 12km from downtown Manaus. The city of Manaus is famous for its spectacular Opera House built at the end of the 19th century when the city was experiencing the peak of its rubber boom period. The hotel is well known for its Portuguese colonial-style decoration.
The Tropical Manaus Hotel features spacious and comfortable rooms, all with air conditioning. The rooms with marvelous dark wood, colonial-style interiors would best suit those who want to travel back in time, and relive the glorious years of the rubber boom era. However, if your preference is the more contemporary, then the recently opened wing, with its modern decoration, would best suit you. The Tropical Manaus Hotel is a base point for visiting the Amazon rainforest and the hotel itself gives you a taste of what you will experience if you choose to go deeper into the Amazon. The hotel grounds are filled with trees full of singing birds and has its own mini zoo. Open since 1976, Tropical Manaus Zoo Gardens consists of a menagerie of approximately 100 native species of the Amazonian fauna, housed in a green area of more than 20,000 square meters in the hotel grounds.
The grounds themselves are large and it can take well over an hour to explore them. Visitors to the hotel will have the opportunity to experience the Amazon, the largest rainforest in the world, without losing contact with civilization and the comfort offered by the Tropical Manaus Hotel will guarantee that your Amazon trip will be an unforgettable experience.

Tropical Hotel, Mango Guest House
The Tropical Hotel is at Ponta Negra, a $20 taxi ride from the center of Manaus (or a 50–cent bus ride). It's also expensive: over $120pp for a standard room during my 1998 and 2002 visits.
Mango Guest House is located in a residential neighborhood half–way between the Tropical and the center of Manaus — and within walking distance (though a long walk) of Shopping Amazonas, a huge mall. Mango's roomrates are about one–third those of the Tropical.
Unique Quality: The Tropical: it has everything: large rooms; a pool; a private zoo; a weekend nightclub; a good coffee shop and a fine churrascaria. It also has a shopping arcade — drugstore, bookstore, and souvenir and other shops, and both Amsterdam Sauer and H. Stern outlets. Rooms are large and comfortable, though the central air conditioning sometimes breaks down.
Mango: Its restaurant, Mango Palhoça ('thatched hut'), serves delicious pirarucu and other fish dishes — to the accompaniment of classical music downloaded from the internet. Mango has a small pool and a well-equipped computer room with free internet access. Its staff is much friendlier and more helpful than the Tropical's and Its owners, a Brazilian and a Swiss long resident in Manaus, speak fluent English. Very highly recommended.

True Massage
I'm going to be staying at the Tropical Manaus Resort in Manaus. Does anyone have a suggest where I might get a "safe" Swedish Massage. I don't want a candle and incense session, but a true deep tissue massage.
