The primary mode of transport to Parintins are the banana boats that ply the various tributaries of the river. They all dock at one part of the island. If you have come in by boat, you can sleep in your hammock overnight. I left my backpack and water bottles in the boat, and it was quite safe. You dont have to pay anything extra to sleep in the boat .. the to and fro fare from Manaus covers it. Most of my co-passengers had found some accomodation on the island. The people who run the boat sleep there at night, and you will have some company.
The docks are only walking distance away from the Bumbódromo ... the venue of the carnival. The boat also has a couple of functional toilets and bathrooms. Its definitely not the Hyatt or Motel 6, but I would strongly recommend this to anyone who is willing to rough it out for a truly unique experience ... where else can you wake up with the sounds of the amazon river beating against the side of the boat .... and the view of the rainforest ? ...... aaaaaaaaaaah !!
