Paranagua and the Serra Verde train
I would like to take this train from Paranagua to Morretes but without going to Curitiba from Sao Paulo.
Is there a direct bus from SP to Paranagua.
From there I would like to go on isla do mel but I will be travelling from 15 sept. Is this a good period to go there ? or should I leave this for another trip in another period ?

Thanks a lot for information.
I'm hesitating to go there because anyway impossible to visit the whole country in one trip. I will be in Brazil for 6 weeks from sept. 15 till oct. 29th but my priority is to see Lençois de Marahenses and then come down till Rio de Janeiro.
But if I still have time, yes....it looks nice.

Make sure there is still going to be enough water in the "lakes" at that time to make a trip to the Parque Lencois worthwhile. Some of the deeper lakes stay all year round, but the shallower ones do dry up at some time.

Yes, that's true but for this year, it is the only period I can go, so I hope to be lucky to see the park with some water in the lakes.
By the way, if you have good info about local transportation from Barreinrhinas to Jeri as I don't want to go back to Sao Luiz.
I know it would be a quicklier solution but it seems to me that this region is so beautiful that its well worth to take time.

The best part of the trip is from Curitiba to Morretes, many people get off in Morretes

Hi, I think you will necessarily need to go to Curitiba to take the train. If you go by bus from São Paulo to Curitiba, the train station is adjacento to the bus depot, just make sure to time your arrival and purchase your train ticket in advance. Curitiba itself is a beautiful city, if you could spend a day there. The most beautiful part of the train trip is from Curitiba to Morretes (over the gorges), rather than from Morretes to Paranaguá (flatter landscape). The coast in Paraná is definitely one of the most unappealing in Brazil (if not the most unappealing). Ilha do Mel is not the most beautiful island - waters are dark, rough and cold, and it might be chilly and windy in September (even the nicest Southern beaches - such as those in Santa Catarina) are a little cold in September. If you are still outlining your trip and enjoy the sun and beaches, I feel you should stay in the Northeast. For instance, a far more beautiful island is Boipeba, in Bahia... Cheers.
