Visit the beaches.
This is the beach at Canoa Quebrada. I fear it may be quite crowded now, but in 1995 it was wonderful. Quiet during the day and bustling at night. Also it was the first time in 3 months I spoke Dutch again. I met some very nice people there.
Check out Fortaleza Esporte Clube for a great game
by CactusJim
If you want to see a professional Soccer game while in town take advantage of the great prices and big action at the Fortaleza Esporte Clube and go cheer on the Lions to victory. They are in the 1st division of the Brazilian Soccer league and have been doing very good for the last few years. They have gone to the playoffs in recent years and they are the only team in the Northeast that is in the 1st division. They, much like the White Sox in Chicago, are a good ball-club and if you want to see a quality game you need to check them out.
There is another team in town, Ceara, but much like the Cubs in Chicago they have not done anything for an eternity and they are pretty much a big disappointment to anyone who cheers for them. They are in the 2nd division for now, if they keep sucking as bad as they have been they will drop into the 3rd division and disappear completely. At that point they might as well have their players use some of that minimum salary to sweep the streets.
The Fortaleza soccer games are played at the Leon stadium and you will have to check their schedule to see if they will be playing while you are in town. If they are, it is very exciting and very wild. It is also quite affordable, about 8 Reis for the cheap seats and 20 for the lower deck.
Their website is listed below the last game that they played in 2005 had 70,000 people in attendance. Another good site is www.leoesdatuf.com
My brother-in-law is a die hard Fortaleza fan so most of the information here came from him...the comments about Ceara are intended to get a rise out of my Uncle-in-law off. The comments about the Cubs are true also they are currently next to last in their division and the Sox have come out swinging hanging in at 1st for their's, but there is still plenty of season left. Take sun screen to the day games. Leave your expensive junk at home.
Good night out at the Pirate place
by little.cintia about Pirata
Pirata was once considered to have the craziest monday on the planet. Maybe it's because it's the only place open and so lively on a monday night.
But it's a good place to go.
You have a great band playing Axe music and the crowd just loves it. People go and they just dance all night long.
Prices on drinks aren't high and make sure you take a taxi. It's terrible to park there.
But it's a good tip :) Something comfortable so you can dance all night :)

Mario's restaurant in Canoa Quebrada. I don't remember anything but Marinus; the Dutch restaurant owner asking me if I'd fancy a steak with gorgonzola sauce. Normally I do not miss any fooditems at home, but gorgonzola sauce....
Statue of Iracema
by sailornappo
A monument to the beautiful native Indian heroine of the novel "Iracema" by the immortal Ceará-born José de Alencar. It depicts Iracema arrow in hand, aimed at the Portuguese warrior before her and holding her son Moacir, symbol of the miscegenation of the Indians and the white man. The statue was erected on Mucuripe Beach, where Iracema waited on the wharf for the return of her lover.
