Tourism office
by IneXisTenZ
Fortaleza is geared towards catering for visitors. The main information office of the state tourist office, SETUR (Mon-Fri 7am-6pm, Sat 8am-2pm, Sun 8am-noon; tel 085/212-3566), is in the Centro de Turismo in the centre, at Rua Senador Pompeu 350, and should be your first port of call; the staff know their stuff, and are especially good on the complicated bus journeys that are often necessary to get to the out-of-town beaches. The tourist information posts are also friendly and efficient; they give out free city maps, and if you're planning to travel in the state outside Fortaleza you should stock up on the relevant information here. There are information posts at the airport (24hr; tel 085/477-1667) and at the Rodoviária (daily 6am-6pm; tel 085/256-4080). The best maps of Fortaleza are usually to be obtained from the municipal tourist organization, FORTUR , who have an information post (daily 8am-5pm; tel 085/252-1444) on Praça do Ferreira in the centre.
Sunscreen
by Hissataka
Lots of swim wear and summer clothes. Jeans are ok if you go out at night. Sunscreen is a must. You can get sunburned just by being in the sun for 15 minutes! There aren't many photo stores around...They charge a lot to develop films. But you can get new films at any souvenir store. Caps and hats are recommended to stay on the beaches.
Canoa Quebrada
by SoccerGirl09
Also in the east coastline of Fortaleza, Canoa Quebrada, the latter symbolized by a crescent moon and a star, and is considered the mystic beach of Ceará. "Canoa", with its colony installed over the "falésías", takes visitors to float between the sky and the sea, and at night turns into a "Babel", where music in the bars is played non-stop. It offers lodging with an excellent infrastructure and international cuisine.
I have never been there, but I plan to... :)
Fortaleza is well served with...
by Linee
Fortaleza is well served with nice restaurants, you can find from great sushi bars to wonderful italian food. But my suggestions are if you like japanese food go either to Kabuki or to Moyashi, but if you are a meat person you eat a great barbecue for about USD10 (for to people) at 'Picanha do Assis'. And I couldn't leave out the best Italian restaurant in town 'Familia Giulliano'.
You are going to find that food in Fortaleza is not expensive (specially because of the dollar high rates that you can get). Don't forget to go to small tipical restaurants where you can also find great food and try Fortaleza's specialty - sea food!
Lagoinha Beach
by sailornappo
One of the more remote beaches are in Lagoinha, about 130 km from Fortaleza. It is a small fishing settlement and has a nice but simple resort-like place with good food. It also features Dune-buggy rides among other attractions.
