Packing List
by Yiannis2000
Camping Humidity destroyed my 2 cameras the first week of my stay in Nordeste... New ones cost the double price from Europe, it can be wise to have an inexpensive mechanical one for every occasion. Buy your hammock from the smaller shops outside the big Municipal Market of Fortaleza, do not get in there (well it's a cool place for coffee) or bring one from home!
I bought mine from there for about 20 reals and it is still fine and in use...
Morro Branco
by SoccerGirl09
I have only been to Morro Branco a couple of times. It is located in the east coasline of Fortaleza. It is famous for their pottery' and wood handicraft. The colorful "falésias and the colorful sand inspires many artists. In the last few years Morro Branco has been one of the most popular sport for street carnival for young adults. You can ride a buggy, enjoy the nightlife, the beach, or just relax.

With a rich food diversity, Fortaleza offers everything, from regional dishes to international cuisine. The typical food reflects the strong traces related to the popular culture and the influence of the settlers. The most notable are baião de dois, carne-de-sol paçoca and of couse, seafood. The most traditional dish is peixada, composed of fish stewed in vegetable souce and pirão (manioc flour and fish sauce cream). From the countryside, comes carne-do-sol with paçoca and cassava, French beans, black pudding and stewed mutton. The local aperitif is cachaça, made from sugar-cane one of the region's principal products, with several locally produced brands known throughout the country.
The richness of tropical fruits is also traditionally known. The weather and the quality of the soil are favorable to the abundant growth in this region, turning fruit culture into an important business activity, one of the state's main export products. The main main ones are sugar apple, jack, sapodilla fruit, murucy fruit. hog plum, melon and acerola fruit. From these fruits, other homemade and industrialized products are obtained, such as juices, ice-creams, sweets, cajuina (regional beverage), cashew nuts, very appreciated not only in Brazil but in other countries as well.

At Beira Mar Avenue you can also see street market that works everyday from 6pm-10pm, there you can find hammocks and many different things hand made. Don't forget: ALWAYS bargain! For those that like nautic sports, you can find a Windsurf spot (they also teach classes) at this Avenue.
You must also go to 'EMCETUR', nowdays is a craft market but not a very long time ago it used to be the city prision. It is very interesting and on the top of the main building you can find a small museum from that holds typical things from the Northeast of Brazil. 'Mercado Central' is also a good place to shop for crafts but I must say that is more interesting for its design from outside.
