Pousada dos Guaras: Heaven on Earth is Here :)

Only a short walk from the Centro Historico is Pousada dos Guaras, a rustic and pleasant place, located right on the beach and surrounded by extensive green area. It received this name because of the constant visits of guaras (scarlet ibis). Pousada has 10 chalets, equipped with air-conditioning, TV and terrace with a hammock. Each chalet consists of room with big, comfortable beds and bathroom. The decor is rustic but nicely colourful, using natural materials, as wood, stone and tiles.

There is a bar and restaurant of regional cooking, offering to score all the comfort and convenience. Their tropical breakfast is most delicious. You can easily spend an hour sampling the variety of dishes. Fruit is in abundance here, so you find big pieces of mango, papaya and pineapple, as well fresh mango and pineapple juice. They make daily fresh couscous, tapioca and various cakes. Cheese and ham for the salty taste, and coffee to wake you up!

Only 100m from pousada is beautiful and deserted Praia de Itatinga, separated by a little canal. Crossing is made by canoe.

The staff in pousada is very friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed so much here that instead of planned one night I stayed two nights :)

When in ALCANTARA, try pousada...

When in ALCANTARA, try pousada Pelourinho, it's got huge rooms, great view and a superb atmosphere.
