I have tried this website http://www.serraverdeexpress.com.br
I also gave it to my travel agent In Brazil. I want 2 tickets on the left side for the train journey. This has been recommended in these forums as well as Lonely planet guide. My travel agent In Brazil says that seats are allocated in random and is unable to promise me seats on the left side. I am planning that particular journey for 25th May'07. I think being so much in advance there should be a way for it. Or is it first come first served and you can choose your seats?
Is ther any 1 st class compartments or all seats are passenger class/economy class?

I've taken the train ride twice, sat on the right side both times. It wasn't a problem because the views are spectacular on both sides, and people on the left side were both times nice enough to allow us from the right side to scoot in and take photos during the really breathtaking portions of the ride. So really, it's not too much of a difference where you sit. Everyone is friendly and will get a chance for good photo opportunities.

I can see where the train to Paranagua is not as "spectacular" as Lonely Planet claims. It is beautiful, but probably not as breathtaking as some would expect. I think the train ride is worth it just to have the opportunity to eat barreado in Morretes, though, don't you think Luc? ;)

In Curitiba, there are famous meeting places such as the Opera de Arame (the iron theatre) or the Pedreira Leminsky (a huge concenrt place in the open air, from an ancient cave). But, beside these architectural and cultural jewels, you still find poor bairros, where most of the people have to face difficult lives.
Vila Velha is a state park, displaying interesting kinds of red rocks, which ressemble things, like birds and other animals or a cup, etc. You have to pay to get in, but it is really interesting. It is about 80 km away from Curitiba.

Curitiba is known for its many parks. Most of them are located outside the city's center and seem a bit hidden away, but they are worth looking for. The pedestrianized downtown is also interesting to visit, displaying different kinds of architecture.
...Curitiba is also called Sao Paulo's little sister.
