Coats and an umbrella
Even during the summer you may need a coat at night....rainy days can happen in any season. Do not be fooled by the fact that Curitiba is in a tropical country...we are in the South...the South Pole is not that far away..:))

Hello, me and other 3 girls are going to study next february and planning on renting an apartment. Do you know where can I find cheap, used beds / house stuff? like a flea market, or street market or something :)
Thanks
Hi,
Where will you be in Brazil? If you are going to Sao Paulo, you might try checking with the hotels in Paulista or the Marginal to see if they can help. They may be replacing their bedding or may be able to refer you somewhere.
BTW, you are the first that I know who is going to Brazil during Carnaval to "study." What kind of studies are you planning?

OH thanks, that's a good idea. I'm going to Curitiba, to study at the university for the whole semester (expecting the carnival to be included in the extra-curricular study :P :)
Oi,
When you get to Curitiba, there are several second-hand stores near Praca Tiradentes...by Al. Augusto Stellfeld and Rua Serro Azul, on the way to Shopping Muller. If you cannot find what you need in this area, I suggest that you check out the local classifieds in newspapers such as "Gazeta do Povo" for people selling "moveis usados", o algo asi. Con mucho cuidado!

During my trip to Curitiba, I saw many signs proclaiming Curitiba as the "Capital do Natal" or "Christmas Capital" in all of Brasil. The one "must see" during the Christmas season (as I was told, but didn't have the opportunity to see) is to see and hear the annual Childrens' Christmas show in the HSBC building in Centro (I think the one along the Ruas das Flores.) Children appear in the windows of the building, which is lit up by Christmas lights and candles. It's supposed to be beautiful to see/hear.
This photo is of a "Feliz Natal" display in a shop window in Santa Felicidade...
I don't mean to add fuel to the romanticised notion that Curitiba is some sort of urban utopia - it has favelas and people that live in poverty like the rest of Brasilian cities - but it does have one of the best planning structures and most creative public councils. The work done here towards sustainability is invigorating.
