Border crossing

by mob325

I will be in the falls Argentia side for a day and want to cross over to Brazil side for a day and then leave from airport to rio de janiero, will I be able to cross border with a visa for brazil and will it take long ?Also will I need a taxi and any idea of cost to cross over/?

If you read previous posts in this forum you will find lots of information. Basically, you are legally supposed to have a visa to enter Brazil, but in practice many Argentine taxi drivers can take you over without one.

If you need to continuen to Rio then you will need to get a proper passport stamp, but it´s fairly quick at the brazilain border.
If there is a line then it might take you half an hour.
And you can walk across the border without any problems and takea bus on the other side.

Travel Tips for Foz do Iguaçu

Big Water

by ATXtraveler

The Guarani or Tupi people call this part of the country Iguaçu, which literally is translated at Big Water. The first non-native to experience the falls was Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, whose name translates to Cow's Head. I am certainly glad they chose to use the original name of Big Water over the name Cow's Head Falls.

As you look at the picture here, please leave a comment if you think the Guarani people have misnamed this place!

It can get hot here in the summer (remember summer time is opposite than in the northern hemisphere), but it gets colder here in the winter than in many parts of Brazil. Bring your camera equipment for photographing the falls. You will want a good zoom lens, a polarizing filter to make those rainbows sing and you may want to experiment with slowing the shutter speed down to give the moving water a smoothed out look. Bring bug repellent for hiking through the national parks.

Bird's Park

by Ipanema_Princess

A nice complement to the Falls visit.
Many exotic birds and butterflies.
The best part is that some of the birds are free in the park. The tucans are particularly friendly and come near the visitors. They're impressive but very nice !

has been for me a little off the beaten path, and had to beat the red tape at the time of unrest in South America....made it though.

THE WATERFALLS ...DUUUHHH !!! (Argentinian side)

by schurlif

Well , no visit to the Iguaçu falls is complete untill you went to see the "GARGANTUA DEL DIABLO" ( the devils throat) and once you're standing there you'll understand the name....
In 2000 we still walked all the way to where the ponton-catwalk was supposed to be but the floods had washed most of the metal construction away , a motorboat brought us close by and we walked the last 600 meters on the remaining catwalk bridge ..... We had come to Argentina and did not even need the passport for the half day visit. That was pre 9/11... In 2003 nobody had brought the passport except me , so they stayed in the hotel at night while I allowed myself a visit at the Casino just barely after the Argentinian border ( casinos are banned in Brazil ). And this year , Camila and I and a couple of friends from Vienna , we arrived at the gates of "Parque Nacional del Iguazu" and , darn , they had built a welcome building just like right out of Disneyland with little ChooChoo trains that you have to board if you want to go to the falls. At the end station you step on the newly built extra wide and strong ponton catwalk bridge for a tedious 1.2 km walk ( or more) but at the end of this bridge awaits you the jawdrop and mindboggling view and hearing impairing thunder of billions of gallons of water dropping into the abyss just barely 10 meters away from you.... all you might think or say is just : " W O W ! ! ! " Yep , Gargantua del Diablo , allright....
