Taxi or Bus to the falls

by rentedcow

Hello All!

We are staying downtown, and our hotel will reserve a round trip taxi for a fixed price of $120 Real for us.

Is that the current price? Or is the hotel taking a kickback?

Thanks

The fare for a taxi from downtown Foz to the park gate is about R40. Assuming you're talking the Brazilean side of the falls, R$120 for the round trip and waiting time seems reasonable but you could do the trip much more cheaply by bus. Buses for the falls run along Avenida JK and Avenida Jorge Schimmelpfeng to the Avenida das Cataratas. They're marked CATARATAS (fare R$2) or PARQUE NACIONAL ( R$1) - don't ask me why the difference. They run every 20 minutes until 6:40pm. The trip to the park gate and visitor centre takes 45 minutes. From the park gate, a free shuttle (every 20 min.) will take you the rest of the way to the falls.

You can expect to pay R$180+ for a round trip to the Argentinean side of the falls.

Hi!

Are you able to find bus-stop by yourselfes? :)

Ticket is 3.60 RS one way, buses is friquent, good road, dropp-off jist near the entrance to Park National.

Inflation I see has doubled the price of the bus - I guess the taxis will have increased as well. All the more reason to take the bus on the Brazilean side and put the money you save towards a taxi or tour to the Argentian side.

Bus ! It's convenient and easy.
There is also a bus that goes to the Argentine side, to the town bus station, from where you can take a bus to the Argentine side of the park. It's not so inconvenient that you HAVE TO spend money on a taxi, either.

Travel Tips for Foz do Iguaçu

Beergardens.

by cachaseiro

Foz do iguacu has quite a few beer gartens due to a lot of brazilians of german decent.
don´t miss out on spending an evening chilling out there with a few beers.
They are mostly located in the center of town and you should find one easily just by taking a stroll around the center.

Money matters . . .

Bring your ATM cards, but keep in mind they might not work at all banks. I had to best luck at the Banco do Brasil on Av. Brasil, but even there you have to look for the machine with the stickers displaying the ATM networks (Plus, Cirrus, Interlink, etc.).

Iguacu Falls - Brazil Side

by Bwana_Brown

Although not the largest, tallest or widest waterfalls in the world, Iguacu Falls is argueably the most spectacular! It has an amazing display of about 273 different cataracts as the 2.5 km wide Rio Iguazu plunges over a hard basalt ridge into the narrow river gorge below.

Brazil's Parque Nacional do Iguacu protects the flora and fauna of the area from the depradations of hordes of visitors. It includes a very nice railed walking path along the high bank of the river gorge, providing fantastic views across to the Argentine-side where most of the actual cataracts are located.

The pathway gradually descends about half-way down into the gorge, where an offshoot allows you to walk out on a ledge of waterfalls below the main torrent of the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo). Be prepared to be soaked with spray if you want to try this - it is worth it though!

Once you have seen enough, a new elevator complex will whisk you back up to the top of the gorge, depositing you at a gift shop and restaurant complex. You can either linger there watching the upper waters of the Rio Iguazu before they plunge over the cliff, or catch one of the park busses back to the main Visitor Centre.

Iguacu Falls - Brazilian side Part 1

by Willettsworld

The double-decker bus will take you from the visitors centre and drop you off at the first viewing platform. The Brazilian side offers a wonderful chance to see a great panoramic view of the waterfalls from a distance. What you will see at first will be the waterfalls on the Argentine side. Then you'll walk along a path to get to see more viewpoints before reaching the final boardwalk to view the star attraction - Devil's Throat.
