A little disappointment
by andal13
I have to confess that I felt a little disappointed with this hotel; its web page is quite good, but the virtual hotel is better than the real one!
I guess it used to be a great hotel some years ago, but now it is pretty decadent... The four stars do not shine anymore!
Unique Quality: The hotel is well located, and has a beautiful garden with a nice pool; the breakfast is varied and abundant, but the restaurant is nothing to die for. The staff is not the most efficient of the world, and the air conditioning artefacts are far from the last generation ones. There is not cable TV.

Date of stay: March of 2007
Hotel Lanville Athénée has suffered a bit through recent years. The hotel owner recently passed away, leaving his wife in charge of things. This has been a difficult transition for her, and sometimes some of the things that should be done are not done.
My stay in this hotel was fine. However, other people who have stayed here have complained about the rooms being dirty or a few other problems.
Breakfast is adequate, and there is an internet room on the ground floor.
The swimming pool was wonderful during my stay there.
The elevators are quite old, and they should never be overloaded. Otherwise, they can be temperamental.
Unique Quality: Near grocery store, and on main street. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. There is traffic noise in the rooms facing the street, but not too much. At the same time, being on a main street means that there are some interesting stores and restaurants nearby.

Flight or bus from Iguassu to Buenos Aires
by babushk
What airlines fly from Iguassu to BA?
Are there overnight busses to BA? How long/much are those?
thanks so much!

Hi,
Lan Airlines and Aerolinas Argentinas fly to Buenos Aires from Iguazu. I would suggest using Lan if possible.
Yes, there are overnight buses from Pto Iguazu to BsAS. The trip takes around 16 to 17 hours and the fare is 115 to 165 pesos depending on the level on service and seat type. You can book the buses locally in Iguazu.
Suerte!!

LAN Argentina and Aerolineas Argentinas.
I also recommend LAN.
Fares are from about 350 pesos and it takes 1.45 hours (see transportation tip om my Argentina page)

Travel Tips for Foz do Iguaçu
Taxi
by acemj
All around town particularly near the hotels, you'll see taxi stands ( pontos ). You can get anywhere within downtown for less than 5 reais, but for longer trips be sure you have an idea about how much it should cost, because like taxi drivers all over the world, not all of them are honest.
Other things to do in the area
by Dabs
We only had one full day to visit the Falls so we did not have time to do anything else. But the guidebooks also list a few other activities should you have a visit of more than 1 or 2 days, the Itaipu Hydroelectic Power Plant dam, the Ecomuseu near the dam and the Bird Park (Parque das Aves) which is very close to the entrance of the National Park on the Brazilian side.
PARQUE DAS AVES - THE BIRD PARK
by schurlif
This is one nice spot you shouldn't miss. After your visit of the falls on the Brazilian side , stop here opposite the National Parks entrance and have a look at these beautifull birds..... In the beginning it's not so exciting as they have a large variety of exotic birds from all over behind bars in cages...... But soon enough you walk by flamingoes and ostriches and then you walk through a door and you're in the middle of the birds habitat , a gigantic bird vivarium with many different species that roam free within this very big closed space. I always love to play with the Tucans , they're not shy at all , I let them nibble on my fingers and hand...and it looks scary because their beaks are so big but I guarantee it doesn't hurt. Some bird species are really "weird", in the sense that you probably have never seen anything like it , for instance a blood red chicken . Another vivarium is dedicated only to parrots and Araras ( don't know their name in English , the big yellow blue birds in Annas arms and on my head.... macaw..??? ) and , as you can see , at the end of the visit you can have a nice foto session with your feathered friends..... I know , this description is not really up to it and the pictures only give a faint idea of the place , but it is , in one word , enchanting....
Don't miss.....
Hey, who needs a watch?
by acemj
Well, because I didn't want to be the victim of thieves, I left my watch at home, so it was nice to see these giant digital clocks around town. Actually, I did buy a watch in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay from a street vendor. I was feeling pretty good about myself for bargaining with the guy and only paying about 2.50 USD until the strap broke the same day I bought it!
