Tourist Information
by acemj
The main tourist information center is located just off of Avenida Jorge Schimmelpfeng, Foz do Iguacu's main drag, on Rua Almirante Barroso. I popped in here to get a few details on the best way to visit Paraguay (Ciudad del Este) as well as the Argentine side of the falls. I also asked the young, English speaking girl who worked here what she would recommend for a good, quick and inexpensive lunch and she came through with a great choice (see my restaurant tips). You can pick up some free brochures including a free map as well as detailed information on visiting the falls and the hydroelectric plant in Itaipu.
The exact address is Rua Almirante Barroso, 1300. The website is www.fozdoiguacu.pr.gov.br
There are two other smaller tourist information booths at the airport and the main bus station (Terminal Urbana on Av. Juscelino Kubitschek).
Paraguay

Located just on the other side of the river is the Country of Paraguay and its dirty city of Ciudad del Este. Despite the warnings of many posters here on VirtualTourist, Sarah and I decided to take an afternoon and cross the border just to see if it really was that bad. Yes, it really is, but at least now we can turn our map blue for this country. I would really like to give Paraguay a second chance some time, but Ciudad del Este will not be the spot to do so.
If you are interested in going to shop, there are said to be some good electronics discounts compared to Brazil, but the prices did not seem to be much of a deal to an American. For more information, you can check out my Paraguay page which is reached by the link below.
Foz do Iguacu - bird's eye view
by rui_bijie
There is no need to book an expensive helicopter flight - if you are flying with Varig. The pilots will make sure that all passengers have a perfect view on the falls from above:
left side: Argentina (Sheraton hotel)
right side: Brazil (Das Gataratas hotel)
The Iguacu National Park
by Willettsworld
The main tourist attraction in the area around Foz do Iguacu is the Iguacu National Park which is where you'll find the spectacular Iguacu Waterfalls. The National Park is split between Brazil and Argentina as the waterfalls lie over the border between the two countries. The Brazil side of the National Park was created in 1939 and it contains an area of 185,000 hectares of subtropical rain forest.
To reach the park, simply take a bus from the city bus station that is marked "Cataratas" or just say the word to someone and they'll point you in the right direction. Once at the park, pay and then get on one of the double-decker buses which will take you to the waterfalls.
Open: Mondays: from 1pm to 6pm, Tuesdays to Sundays: from 8am to 6pm.
Main Square

Foz is a "green city"; its main square it is not an exception, so it has a lot of trees and all kind of plants. Its cool shadow is essential to rest if you decide to make a "walking-city-tour" as I did, because this city is really hot and its streets are really steep!
At Praça Almirante Tamandaré you will also find the Tourist Information Office.
