Unique Hotel: Great Rooftop Bar w/ Amazing Views

I enjoyed a caipirinha at the Sky bar with new Paulista friends. The bar had a great and relaxed atmosphere. I was surprised at how relaxed. The vibe wasn't alienating and cold which similar place in Los Angeles (I'm thinking The Standard Hotel) would have. The view is breathtaking! The hotel is surrounded by the jardins and the parque Ibirapuera. Beyond these start the skyline of highrises. The distance of Unique Hotel's sky bar from the skyline offers an amazing view of the breadth of how continuous it is. I definitely recommend a visit to this bar when in Sao Paulo.

The hotel is recommended too. I did not stay here though, but it is an editor's pick in the Rough Guide. It looks amazing!

Pousada Dona Zilah: A Wonderful Place in a Great Location!

This place is Rough Guide's editor's pick and why I stayed here. It did not disappoint.

The rooms are basic but very clean and most face onto an interior courtyard. The public spaces are very sunny, airy and bright. The staff is super friendly!!! The place felt like a refuge in a large anonymous city. I recommend this place to everyone.

The food too is delicious. The breakfast offers a wide range of food and beverage choices. There is a nice sunny indoor garden-like space to enjoy breakfast. On my last night there, while waiting to leave for my flight, I ordered fusili with wild mushrooms. It was delicious!! The accompanying caipirinha was delish as well. OK, so they might not go together, but I had to have one last caipirinha. You can pair your choice of pasta with your choice of sauce from a set list. Nicely flexible! The mushrooms was a vegetarian option.

Also available is internet access and really nice classic board and table games. It looked like they were locally made, old school, out of wood and natural resources. The common area was a very nice place to kick back in, the games added novel ways to engage with travel companions, others.

There is one room I'd warn people about, it's a single room with a twin bed. I think it's #18, not sure though, but it's right next to the kitchen. If you are not a morning person, get another room. I met a guy who stayed in this room and that was his complaint.

Pousada Dona Zilah is located in the Jardins, a wealthy residential neighborhood. It is a little walk uphill to Avenida Paulista and downhill to Rua Oscar Freire. Jardins is located on a sloping hillside.

Sonesta Hotel: Great Value in Sao Paulo

Located in the trendy Moema area near restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, the 4-Star Sonesta Hotel offers excellent accommodation, service and value. Accommodations are spacious and include a desk, minibar, cable TV and more; some offer Jacuzzi tubs and other upgrades. Guests will enjoy dining in the Tabu Restaurant where the complimentary breakfast is served. For a bit of diversion guests can enjoy the pool, health club and spa. Complimentary in-room Internet, business center, and meeting room make it the prefect business destination. Check for special promotions, especially on the weekends.
