Hi can anybody help please, we have booked to go natal next xmas and is it possible to book flights to rio independently than going with our tour operator and posiibly staying for two nights would anybody know if this would be cheaper than the tour operator as i dare say flights might be hard to get hold of during the festive season etc.
Wea re also staying at the vila do mar hotel does anybody know this hotel and any comments good or bad would also be appreciated.
Also just read january is the worst month in natal for rain please dont tell me its going to be like england! any other information would be gladly recieved.
January is a month of school vacations in Brasil, so will find many people from the South ( Sao Paulo and Rio ) in Northeast ( Natal). Flights are not easy to find at this period too and perhaps sometimes is to buy a package is the only way to get a ticket. In Rio many hotels sells packages for New Year's Eve, you can't book only for 2 nights. Take a look in my Brasil page, there are some domestic airlines companies web sites there in my transportations tips.

The biggest cashew tree in the world is found at the district of Pirangi do Norte, 24 km south from Natal . The tree covers an area of about 7000 m2, with a perimeter of about 500m. The tree grew so much because of the combination of two genetic anomalies.
Admittance to the park is R$3 (adults) and R$ 2 (students, over 65 years old); money is invested towards improving the structure of the parks. Bi-lingual guides (English and Spanish spoken) are available. Outside the park, there are several kioskes selling t-shirts, handcrafts, postcards etc.
Natal is an ugly, boring town in the north east corner of Brazil. Close to the city and next to the long beach is the tourist ghetto of Ponta Negra. This was initially a very beautiful beach area with steep slopes down to the waterfront. Today the area is a mixture of ugly hotels and abandoned plots. Urban planning does not exist. New hotels are still being built in Ponta Negra though, but the europeean charter tourists are now moving south to places like Pipa, some 50 km south from Natal where it is said to be more quiet and beautiful.
