Cheap, clean and resonably safe
by El_Rubio about Lanais Place
Lanais Place is in Ponta Negra, Natal. It is situated in one of the upper streets from the beach. One street below Hotel Ponta Negra. It is a clean, cheap place and seems resonably safe. There are always two huge, smelly trash containers on the street outside so you will know when you have found the right street. They accept VISA Cards but their equipment to read the card is mostly out of order....so you'd better carry cash. The manager has an interesting frequency of his voice that can penetrate any concrete wall. So if you're bored and an acoustic scientist, bring your equipment.

El albergue Lua Cheia es muy recomendable (ver foto al lado) y uno de los mejores de Brasil. Además, os recomiendo pasar vuestros días en Ponta Negra, a 13km del centro de Natal, la capital de Río Grande do Norte.

First class acommodation
by Dantas about Blue Marlin Hotel
We stayed last year in May and again some weeks ago in this small and modern hotel and it was fantastic. It is located just in front of the sea, the rooms are around 45 square meters, very confortable all them with a stunnig view from Ponta Negra beach.
The great view from the terrace on the roof where the breakfast is served is something unforgetable.
We recommended this hotel to some friends and they really appreciated. The breakfast.
The terrace on the roof.
The room´s size.
The swimming pool facing the sea.
The efficient and friendly staff. Language is not problem: All of them speak english and some can also norwegian, spanish and german.

Excellent value for money
by jmauver about Valencia Flats
I stayed for 1 month in this self catering apartments in Natal. Very close to the best part of Natal, Valencia Flats is like an serviced apartment, where you pay in advance the lenght of your stay (the more you stay, the less you pay). There is no concierge but the building is very secure and offers garage and off street parking. You can walk to Ponta Negra beach in about 10 minutes. Praia Shopping takes no longer than 5 minutes. The apartment iteself is simple but clean and modern. A big fridge, oven/cook, essential kitchen utensils, dining area, double bed, built-in wardrobe-a-like storage space, large platform with TV set and internet point (broadband is free). The bathroom is fully tilled and clean with shower. There is a big fan on the ceiling which provides fresh air during the warmest days. It is quite, well kept, clean, safe, cheap and independant. Great location, everything you need without luxury.

I've been to Natal in a trip to Northeast in the 80's, I don't remember the year; we flew to Recife where we rented a car and drived until Natal and came back to Recife where we left the car; I remember the Reis Magos fortress and the beautiful beaches around the city; It's a great place for vacation.

"A week travelling in Brazil"
Well where can I start with our first week in Brazil ? How about 8 ticketless TAM flights(their equivalent to easy jet) several delayed flights , one aborted landing , connection flights, all on our own over 7,000 miles travelled, three time zones and we can't even speak the language
"The second week of our holiday"
We stayed here at the Serhs grand hotel on Ponta Negra beachfront near Natal,Brazil for or second week of a two week holiday in Brazil. The first week we covered Rio de janeiro ,Iguassu (both the Brazillian and Argentinian sides) ,the Amazon , travelled over 7,000 miles in the first week!
"Around ponta negra"
So the main questions I have been asked since I returned are,
"was it safe to walk out?" and "why Brazil?"
Well let me tell you all that Yes it is safe to walk out even at night in fact Natal is the safest place in Brazil apparently. Moreover we found the Brazillians some of the nicest polite and friendly people in the world, even the street sellers if you told them no they left you alone.
Why? Becasue we could!I have wanted to visit rio for a while now and my good lady has always wanted to visit the rain forest(which actually IS a forest and believe me it DOES rain there). We are getting older now and our ideas of a holiday are changing ,so we took this week tour and a week hotel based holiday to get the most out of it and we were certainly not dissapointed.

Ponta Negra

Hi,
Visiting Brazil for 3 weeks and flying out this Tuesday. This is our first visit (2 couples) and we are based in the Northeast. We want to combine beach with sightseeing but not sure what is realistic due to distances. Would like to see Rio, Iguacu Falls and wildlife in the Pantanal. Does anyone know if this is achievable? Is it worth getting an airpass in advance or can I book up flights quite easily when we get there? Also, does anyone have any indication of flight costs (cheap/expensive?)Not left myself much time to find out (only just found this site)but hopefully someone can advise. Many thanks - VHS.

it's achievable but it's better to buy an airpass in advance because the distances are big

Well, Rio-Campo Grande is a long trip (I guess almost 24h), but 3 weeks are a lot of time.
I did Bonito-Iguaçu passing overnight through Paraguay... and it was ok.
Don't know how much is the airpass... it's a personal decision.. you may just buy a Rio_Campo Grande and continue by bus..

Hotel Praia Azul Mar, in Ponta Negra
by Heavens-Mirror
Hi vt members
i want to go to Brazil next next year with my fiance Gaz. We have priced up lots of hotels, and some of the 2-3 stars seem to have better customer feedback than the 4 or 5 star hotels.
We have priced up the Hotel Praia Azul Mar and really like the look of it. Please let me know anything about this hotel if you have been to Ponta Negra. It would be great to have some peace of mind on it. Its a fantastic price to go and i really want to book it soon.
Thanks,
Stacey xxx

I suggest also Primo Hotel, the managers do speak english and spanish fluently. The hotel is right behind the Farmacia Irma Dulce. They do shuttle from and to the airport, they even have guards patrol 24 hours a day. Nice looking apartments with air-conditioned and warm shower. The accomodation has got also the swimming pool, gym and sauna. I stayed there with my woman and an apartment with kitchen one double bed, a living room with a single bed has been 45 euros per day.
I gladly would back there.

some help

Hi i am thinking to travel to natal ponta negra and pipa with my family over christmas this year,my wife and two kids 3 and 5.I know brazil has a reputation of being dangerous, just would like to know is ponta negra and pipa ok for a family? as always have read good and bad reports.
thanks Jason
RE: some help
by matbronson
the only two things that fall into my mind that are not so good for a stray in pipa with kids is that the sea can be quite rough (there's a couple of surf beaches around) and you'd have to walk quite a lot to see unspoiled places.. otherwise it's really a nice place for family holidays
RE: some help
by cristiana04
nor even Pipa or Ponta Negra are dangerous place. Pipa is good for surfing and Ponta Negra has some parts that the sea is appropriate for kids, others you have to care, both are remarkable for many reasons, specially nature and nice people. Check:

and hope that you will have great time in Brazil

RE: some help

I was at Pipa a couple of times and the sea didn't seem rough. Just in front of the main restaurants and bars in the beach.
During the day you can travel by most of the city (public transportation and walking) with no problems.
During the night ponta negra gets pretty crowded so no major issuses. Just avoid dark alleys and walking around dark isolated places.
RE: some help
by RicMelo
No its not dangerous! Im here and you will find confortable place to your children. Pipa is a place with teen people for party..But you must known it! Some beaches are for surfing but the main beach is ok for kids and the left side is great too, you can see dolphins very close! There are restaurants and structure seems a small town as it is. But dont worry, we see tourists with kids like 3 months years old, and they enjoy everything normaly. And doubt send me a message! Good Luck!
