What temperature to expect in Porto Alegre and Canela in late august?

by siri

We are going to Canela-area in late august this year, and I am a bit confused about what weather/temperatures celsius to expect? Is it winter or spring in august?

Canela is colder than Porto Alegre.

Temperatures usually vary between 10º and 20º C during the day ... it can get colder, specially in Canela. If there is a strong cold wave temperatures can get bellow zero. Nights are usually cold with temperatures around 10ºC.

Eventually it gets as warm as spring and temperature goes above 20ºC.

It is humid so the cold sensation is stronger.

Hi !

Seasons here are exactly the opposite of the northern hemisphere. Therefore, in late august it´ll be winter here. Temperatures during late august are highly variable due to the proximity of spring which tends to be quite windy. In Porto Alegre, temperatures seldom go below freezing, even during midwinter. In Canela which is located on a mountain range, temperatures are lower. One should expect a sharp drop in temperature in late afternnons and especially after sunset. It´s not uncommon to be in the 0 - 10 C range at this time of the year. But as I said, it´s highly variable and it´s not at all uncommon to have temps in the 20 - 30 range so my advice is for you to be prepared for everything. Hope that helps...

Packing List

Brazil is not all tropical. June to August can get quite cold here in PoA. I've never seen it below 0 c but close. If you take a trip to the mountains it'll be a little below on some days. So warm clothes for this season! You can get most things in the city. Ditto above

MAKE A TRIP AND DONATE

by janaina

If you take the boat trip organised by the municipality of Porto A legre, they will take you
to " Pintada " isle and the other isles around, from the City Port, and the price will be a donation,a package of food for the natives (yes, that's the situation!).
An extra of 10 reais will be paid for those who wants to join this trip on board of the famous "Cisne Branco "(white swan),because the boat is a bit more fancy.

The Brazilian Navy’s Park

by Alless

(The Brazilian Navy’s Park (Parque Marinha do Brasil ) occupies an area of 715 thousand sq. meters at Praia de Belas District. From there one can admire the waters of Guaíba Lake. Sportspeople enjoy the park very much due to its infrastructure characteristics – it has four tennis courts, five multipurpose courts, a soccer field, six indoor soccer fields, an athletic sports track, a skating track, a skateboard track, nine sand soccer fields, a mourning hall and gymnastics equipment. Bicycle and quadricycle rental is also available. It also has a playground and a small amusement park. Out of its total area, 11 hectares represent forests and grass-covered spaces where there are many native trees and exotic species.

Jumping Around Porto Alegre

by jumpingnorman

I enjoyed my two visits to Porto Alegre, and at both times, my most memorable experiences were eating at the CHURRASCARIA! Yummy steak and they never stop giving it to you until you hold up a STOP sign (eat all you can steak!)
