Hi Tanya Jade

Yeh we wanted to know where one was also. We met some missionaries who got to searching for us. And we found one and hope to go tomorrow. The place is Igrasia Baptist Central, Av Cristovao colombo, across the road from Shopping Total. The service is currently at 9am in the morning. Best wishes and we hope to see you there

Travel Tips for Porto Alegre

Greeting people

by RaquelMac

Men only shake hands, or hug if they are close. They sometimes tap each other on the back to show friendliness.
Women can both shake hands (more formal situation) or kiss on the cheek and hug, if they are closer.
Also, when kissing on the cheeks, we kiss three times and not two as in the rest of Brazil.

I always travelled with light Backpack, with many pockets. everything neetly wrapped & separatly in plastic bags.a spare bag for dirthy clothes.* the South can be cold..wintertime from July/Aug.warm clothing recommended, good shoes & weathergear* everything can be bought in P.A. for medical supply and medication ask youre G.P.* take minimum supply from home, the rest buy here depense what you prefer..see my Brazil Page* try to learn some portugues sentence....they always come handy. in this part of Brasil, english is a little on the thin site. you might get lucky with german or italian...spanish is often understood, but portugues would give you a little edge

THE LAKE IS A " HOUSE " FOR MANY RIVERS!!

by janaina

Lake Guaiba receives the water of Jacui River ,Cai River,Sinos River and Gravatai River.
In the isles created by this complex, was created,in 1976,the "Delta Do Jacui " National Park, with 28 isles (most isolated ),with a special unique fauna & flora!
Some isles are connected to the city by the bridge, some, only by boat!

a City with a wonderful Port and the greenest image in all of Brasil
take a look at the other VT pages or at the website below, just for you to see, what this City is all about. you might be tempted to visit, next time you are in Brasil, or Argentina or Uruguay

Porto Alegre - Gaúchos´ Capital

by ThiagoRamos

Porto Alegre is the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the southest state of Brazil. It is nowadays the 10th biggest city in the country with more than 1.4 million inhabitants.

People born in Rio Grande do Sul are called gaúchos and they strongly cultivate local traditions, probably more than in any other brazilian state. All around Brazil you can find the CTGs (Gaúcho´s Traditions Center... or somehing like that) where gaúchos living outside Rio Grande get together to celebrate their beatiful and interesting traditions.

Gaúchos are particularly famous for "churrasco" (barbecue) and "chimarrão" (an infusion of mate leaves served without sugar). You just cannot leave Rio Grande do Sul without trying both!!!
