Gasômetro
Walk nearby Gasômetro. It's a kind of cultural centre by the Guaiba lake. Besides the exhibitions, the sunset seen from that point is lovely! Bom Fim and Cidade Baixa areas. They have a very peculiar atmosphere.

hi Im only going to be in Porto Alegre for a day. Is there a left luggage t the bus station? and if not is there anywhwhere else i can leave my luggage?
There are two "Guarda Malas" (left luggage) in Porto Alegre's bus station.
Open the below link to let me inform you about Porto Alegre's "Guarda Malas" position:
http://www.rodoviaria-poa.com.br/institucional/site/df_serv.htm
After you have connected to the upper site, click at "Guarda Malas" at the left upper corner. You then will be able to watch where is the Bus Station left luggage. I never have been in Porto Alegre Bus Station but I believe you will solve easily this issue .
Note: Some spanish practice would be appreciated by brazilians to soften conversations...

A far as I know, Portuguese is still spoken in Porto Alegre, and not Spanish.
Just FYI, most bus stations and airports in Brazil, major and minor, offer a place to check your luggage for a few hours or a few days.

Chimarrão:It's a typical drink in Rio Grande do Sul that tastes like tea. Chimarrão is served in a 'cuia', which is made from the shell of a native plant of the region, the 'porongo'. Inside the 'cuia' is placed ground erva-mate leaves, and a steel straw called the 'bomba'. After the erva-mate is put inside the cuia, hot water is poured inside to make the chimarrão.The drink is served very hot and drunk through the 'bomba'.
As it is a long drive from PA or gramado/Canela area, most visitors to Rio Grande do Sul avoid visiting the missions in the north, although the well preserved mission in Sao Miquel is a known spot.
Indeed, going there to see just Sao Miquel is not worthwhile the effort, but you can (a) cross the border and visit similar missions in Argentina and Paraguay, or (b) head to Palmyra, see the local gaucho tea production and go from there to a national park.
When I was in Palmyra, I luckily could see a local gaucho event;unfortunately, they only do it from time to time, so don't count on it.
Do you like sports? If you are keen on football (or soccer), you must visit both stadiums we have in Porto Alegre.
One is Beira Rio. It belongs to the best team in the world, Internacional. The colour of this team is red.
It's a huge stadium. Don't miss it!
Rocco Confectionery is a majestic art nouveau building located on the corner of Riachuelo Street and Doctor Flores Street, next Conde de Porto Alegre Square in Downtown Porto Alegre. Built between 1910 and 1912 by Salvador Lambertini and Manuel Itaqui Barbosa Assunpção for the Italian-born confectioner Nicolau Rocco, it shows plenty of adornments on the facade, including huge pilasters, powerful atlantes and fine iron work to the many balconies. Its exquisite products and luxurious inner spaces made it a traditional meeting point for the fashionable and enlightened society ( people like Góes Monteiro, Eurico Gaspar Dutra, Getúlio Vargas, Daltro Filho e Mário de Andrade), where took place also balls and banquets. It is a City Heritage building since 1997.
In 2006 was restored and hosted the " Casa Cor 2006 " ( an architectural / interior design annual event ).Nowadays the rocco building is kept closed.
