I forgot to ask what the weather will be like in late December and early January. Also, how long does it take to get to Rio from Porto Alegre? Is there a bus or a train? Is there anything to see on the way? Should we just fly instead?

RE: More questions

by hmoitta

The weather will be very hot and humid in this period; it takes more than 20 hours by bus, I don't know exactly, take a look in my Brasil or South America page for buses links. There are lots of beaches and other interesting cities on the way.

LAKE??OR RIVER??

by janaina

Dificult to call Guaiba " Lake Guaiba ",after growing up with the idea it was a river!
But,it's a lake!!
Its waters meet the Atlantic in Rio Grande, the last south point of this state.

MARGS.-Museum of Art of Rio Grande do Sul

by Alless

Museum of Art of Rio Grande do Sul – MARGS
With a predominantly neoclassic style, the building was designed by German architect Theo Wiederspahn. Originally it was the headquarters of the Fiscal Surveillance Agency of the Federal Revenue Office. Nowadays, it hosts the largest collection of works in Rio Grande do Sul, many of which were created by renowned local, national, and foreign artists. The internal spaces are illuminated through “vitreauxes” (artistic window glasses) embellishing the major hall ceiling. The building became a historic landmark by the National Historic Site Office in 1983 and it is at Alfândega Plaza, Downtown. You may visit it from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Guided visit can be scheduled.
