Catamarans in Angra dos Reis to go to Ilha Grande

by GQ_Trippin

How often are their catamarans in Angra dos Reis to take passengers over to Abraao Village on Ilha Grande? I found a website that says only at 8:00/ 11:00 and 16:00 but am wondering if it is more frequent? Like any time you arrive to the pier? Thanks!

that's what i have found, but look at the boats going from mangaratiba, even though they don't suggest it...if you need a different time.

here's another one. looks like monday through friday, it leaves at 1530 hrs.
saturday and sundays and holidays, 1330.

No, they´re limited. Some hotels have private ships included in their prices. If you want to cross by yourself you have to pay a private transfer, very expensive, I did some years ago cause I've missed the hotel transfer.

Travel Tips for Angra dos Reis

There are rubbish disposals everywhere, unfortunately, there have hardly been discovered by the Brazilians!!!!!
Everytime I am absolutely shocked and horrified to see how even well educated people of the so called upper classes show complete neglect in environment matters!!!
Not only is all rubbish thrown overboard in the most beautiful bays, but there are bilges pumped, boats cleaned and sewage water from whole towns or villages going straight into the sea!! Monday mornings, during the holiday seasons are the best time to watch this tragedy:watersand beaches are absolutely littered with garbage, however, they
are cleaned up amazingly fast by the armada of men and women employed to clean up this most unnecessary mess!!
Nature though has not forgotten that quickly and e.g. fish life has suffered tremendously!!

As Angra comprehends 360 islands,a vast nbr of beautiful anchorages and specially Ilha Grande, where the better off people from Rio & Sao Paulo goes in vacations, many of them keep their boats here on a permanent basis.
In Angra itself, there is a lively fishing harbour, also sporting two marinas and a great nbr of private docks plus a base of the German Bluewater cruising club "Trans Ocean".
For those planning a cruise in the area,I found that in Angra there are a lot of boats repair places near the main marina.

"The Two Angry Kings"

Angra dos Reis means "The Two Angry Kings". The town is famous for its spectacular coastline, but apparently not for the angry kings, since nobody (including myself) seems to know much about them. Rumor has it that they eventually emigrated to Kingaroy, Australia, where they started the successful Didgeridoo trance dance band "The King and Roy". Along the spectacular coastline are lined up 365 (one for each day of the year) beautiful and pristine islands, including the "Ilha Grande" or "Great Island".

Brazil's only functioning nuclear power plant is located in Angra dos Reis. This lovely and picturesque power plant is called "Central Nuclear Almirante Álvaro Alberto" and got its name - you guessed it - from the two angry kings Álvaro and Alberto. Perhaps they were angry as they felt a nuclear reactor would pose a certain disadvantage to the beauty of the coastline.

Anyway, in my opinion both the picturesque power plant and the spectacular coastline are well worth the visit. They both have been living in pragmatic harmony ever since.

Angra dos Reis or Islands of the Kings in English is an interesting town about 2 hours from Rio. From the town boats can be taken to a huge amount of Islands for swimming.
