Very good hotel 1.5 blocks from Geriba Beach
This is a good hotel with a nice pool area, bar, beach service, and restaurant. We stayed here in April, and had a nice experience. There is a children's play area set back from the pool, and some semi-private "cubby-holes" for each room in each ground floor room. They have a very good traditional Brazilian breakfast spread, and a buffet style dinner for those that don't want to order off the menu. We rented a small room with a private jacuzzi, which was small but adequate. The pool area is very nice with some pool chairs and umbrellas. There is a bit of a family feel to this place. Also, the rooms have concrete floors. No need to try to vacuum up sand, and in general, this is typical of beach area places in Brazil.
The staff is good at the restaurant, but there are one or two behind the desk who are incompetent. They didn't have our original room ready, so we had a night in a downgraded room, but as we were on vacation, we just went with the flow. They also messed up our transfer back to Rio, but hired a complementary taxi to take us there to make up for it. I can see where some people have had complaints over this, but in general, they will get it right if you have a little patience and Portuguese language about you. There are a couple behind the desk who are the opposite of incompetent, and they work very hard to help guests.
The shuttle to the Rua das Pedras is easy to reserve to go there, but take a cab back. It's tough to predict how much time you'll eventually want to spend.
