Icaraí Praia Hotel: Adequate but not fantastic

The hotels along the Icarai Beach (Praia) are all about the same. They do not live up to the same standard as those along Copacabana or Ipanema for example, but then again they are also a lot more economical.

The Icaraí Praia Hotel is a comfortable enough stay, but would not say it is lavish or posh by any means. The rooms are rather small, the beds are very firm and the amenities consist of a bed, night stand, TV and a small desk. The rooms are clean, but then again its not hard to wipe down a vinyl floor with a mop.

The hotel does offer free WiFi, but it does cut in and out depending on the usage of other guests. There is free parking too. The offer a decent breakfast buffet which is included depending on your reservation.

There is a free community computer in the lobby if you did not bring a laptop.

Icarai Praia: Very Friendly

I stayed here during and after the Carnival 2005. I was very pleasantly surprised by the size and comfort of my room, which for a medium grade hotel was much better than would be normal in and around European Cities.
The hotel staff were great, extremely friendly. They all really worked very hard to make me feel welcome, and the service at reception and in the restaurant was very warm and friendly.

2 minutes walk from the calcadao and the beach.

Hotel Village Icarai, Niteroi: Another good deal.

During my visit to Rio and area I also visited Petropolis and Ilha Grande, which included overnight stays in each place. On returning to Niteroi I changed hotels since Hotel Praia was fully booked. The rooms at Hotel Village Icarai were a little smaller with all the amenities offered by the Praia. The staff were just as friendly and helpful and one or two did understand some English.

The breakfast room was a bright place and the excellent buffet was arranged alongside a huge rock that is part of the hill behind the hotel. The photo not only shows the rock but also part of the buffet, another table of food was set up along the a second wall.

Icarai Praia Hotel, Niteroi: Good value accommodation

Good budget hotel with air conditioning, TV, big bed, a safe, bathroom ensuite, buffet breakfast all 100m from Icarai beach.

Recommended for the budget traveller.

Try to have some knowledge of Portuguese before you go, it helps when talking to the staff. I could be the first Canadian visiting.
