Drive from Rio & Stay in Parati
Hi All
Wanting to hire a car from Copacabana, Rio to Parati. Has anyone done this? Do you prices, length of drive (I heard about 4 hours) and whether it was a good drive?
Also, looking to stay at Pousada do Ouro for 1 night then drive back to Rio. Has anyone stayed here? Any opinions would be appreciated.

We rented a car but you can also go by Bus(very comfy).
The drive, after maybe 1 hour is quite beautiful.
The area is called "Costa Verde", I think.
You will feel compeld to stop many times.
The area around Angra dos Reis is great for a boat ride, there are
about 365 isles and the water is great.

you can't enter in the historical center of Paraty with a car, I would take the bus.

Paraty is very small and is easily done by foot.
We went by bus before but my DH wants to do many stops to
see enjoy the scenery better and explore.

I went to Parati by bus a couple of months ago. Its a very small town and the centre, where the pousada do ouro is located is pedestrian only so you have to park your car outside and walk in. I am not sure what people do with their luggage, if the hotel staff pick it up for you or if you have to carry it yourself. The streets in Paraty are made up of large stones it would be impossible to drag a heavy wheeled suitcase along them.
I have heard good reports about the pousada but have never stayed there. I would recommend the Porto restaraunt and the Pousada Sandi. The Porto is the best place I have eaten in Brasil by a long long way.
Have you considered taking a taxi to Paraty?If you phone the pousada they may be able to arrange a transfer for you. Alternatively if you are in Rio just ask one of the taxi drivers for a flat rate for the journey. I did that going to Buzios and it was quite a reasonable cost.
There is a nice tourist info centre in Paraty with leaflets for day trips etc. Try a day trip to the Murcyana Fazenda, $R20 in a taxi, its an old farm set in the forest at the start of the gold trail.

Rio to paraty needs 3/4 hours drive-with many stops...-In Paraty you can't go in the town... So the best way seems to be the Bus trip...4 hours in confortable buses. In Paraty 2 days are necessary. One for the town and one for a sailing tour of the bay...Even more if you go to paratimirim or Trindade...
I Stayed last year in Pereque park hotel...Very cosy and cheap.
