Horse & Buggy
If you stay at the Pousada Porto Imperial Inn you can reserve a "horse and buggy" trip around the Historic Center. We actually used ours to take us back to the bus station when we left.

This elegant hotel is in the heart of the historical center. It offers all the comfort and luxury you can desire. It is housed in a colonial-style building and has an internal garden, a swimming pool, a sauna, a wine bar, a restaurant, and plenty of common space to relax reading a book or talking to friends. Decoration is very sophisticated since it includes a collection of items typical of the Brazilian spirit . There are ceramics, tapestries, colonial furniture and antiques.
The rooms have telephone, air-conditioning, cable TV, minibar, security box, and even a hair dryer.
As everywhere in Brazil a delicious and healthy breakfast is included.
The restaurant, Kyoto, is a great joy for the palate with delicious dishes and a nice buffet. Its sushi bar and fish dishes are excellent.
You can even enjoy a good massage for 90R an hour.

This hotel was known as the Pousada Porto Paraty when we stayed there but has since been renamed. However from what I can see on the web the style and facilities appear much the same as we experienced, although they seem to have added an outdoor swimming pool.
The hotel is in a converted colonial house (200 years old) with bags of charm – whitewashed walls and dark wood, and lots of nooks and crannies. The rooms are decorated with typical Brazilian artworks and colonial style furnishings. A buffet breakfast with plenty of tropical fruit is included in the price, and the restaurant also serves dinner, though we didn’t eat here during our stay.
The location is good, just at one end of the small town, near the bridge where locals fish. A standard double room, with air-conditioning and TV, currently costs from R$180 (US$60), while a superior room is R$220 (US$75).
Unique Quality: At the centre of the hotel is a lovely garden with an award-winning collection of bromeliads (more than 70 identified species) and hanging feeders which attract plenty of humming-birds.
This Pousada is very well located at the northern end of the old town. Outside the front door is the old town square.
Staff are all very good and the place is beautiful.
Unique Quality: Many common areas including a game area with all games provided.
Decent swimming pool.
Free internet PC
Reasonable breakfast included
We had a most enjoayble stay-- the breakfast were very ample.
We paid about $50 US at the time.
Unique Quality: There was a nice sitting area in the front--along with a nice sitting area back by the pool- there is also a dry sauna in that area.
