Rio and BA in December '07
by irvbur
We're looking at a particular tour from "Gotmyfare" that would have us stay at the Hotel Sarmiento or Roma Plaza(or equivilant) in BA, and the Hotel Atlantic or Hotel Royalty(or equivilant)in Rio. Has anyone ever used them? What's your experience with them?
Any info on hotels and/or location would be appreciated. Also, we would be traveling in December. What's the weather like then? I know it's Summer.
Please do not suggest independent travel.
Thanks, Irv

I can tell you that in March, which is "cooler," Rio was extremley hot and humid. I can't imagine it being any cooler in December. If you are coming from a cold weather climate, the heat will be harder to adjust to.

Irv,
Maybe you refer to Hotel Atlantico Copacabana?

This is a good hotel (not a top one), very popular with organized tours and next to the subway station. It's about 4 blocks from the beach. I know people from my company who stay there when coming to a meeting in Rio, but lately they have used other hotels who give them some extras, like free dinner, so I can't give you recent feedback.
I know where Royalty Copacabana Hotel is located, it's a few blocks apart from Hotel Atlantico Copacabana, but I have no reference about their services. There's also Royalty Barra Hotel, which is in front of the beach.
Weather in December will most probably be hot and a bit wet. Summer is also our rainy season. In general it means a strong and quick rain late afternoon, but sometimes we may get a couple of days of constant rain. Every year it gets more unpredictable.
