Some of the colleagues of the course that I attended lodged in here and I found it really nice. It was really well located in Arpoador area, really calmed and not expensive as Ipanema, just three blocks away, or Copacabana, two blocks away). Half a block away is also the bus station, where you can take buses that drive you to the rest of Copacabana, Rio Sul Shopping Center, Botafogo, Flamengo, the rodoviaria (bus station for going outside Rio) and even the airport! The apartments are nice and comfortable and besides the bathroom and bed it has a little living room and kitchen. Although the prices of the website goes from US$35-45, you can make special deals if it's low season or you have a longer stay. | | | | Copacabana Palace: Luxury Hotels in Rio Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
As I just wrote enough advices on budget hotels in Rio I wanted to give you a short inside-view also to the luxury hotels in Rio, most of all the most famous one: The Copacabana Palace Hotel. Rio's most traditional and luxurious hotel was opened in 1923. The impressive, stucco-fashioned landmark building was designed by the French architect Joseph Gire, who was inspired by two hotels: the Negresco in Nice and the Carlton in Cannes. Since its opening, it has had only two owners - the Guinle family of Rio de Janeiro and from 1989, Orient-Express Hotels. It is set near the Copacabana beach and convenient for Rios nightlife and centers of commerce. Copacabana Palace has two restaurants, The Pergula (by the pool) and the Cipriani restaurant (with Northern Italian cuisine). The restaurant and its bar are located on the ground floor of the Annex, overlooking the hotels pool. The hotel also has 24-hour room service, outdoor pool, sauna, solarium, and massage. Golf, tennis, health club, beach, and watersports are nearby. The Copacabana Palace is superbly located: it faces the famous Copacabana Beach and yet is only minutes from the center of Rio. The hotel is located eight miles from the domestic airport, Santos Dumont, and 20 miles from Rio de Janeiros international airport, Tom Jobim. Within ten miles of the hotel are botanical gardens, downtown, Sugar Loaf Mountain, and Maracana Stadium. Rooms and suites are air conditioned, all with bath, minibar, phone, and cable. | | | | Merlin Copacabana Hotel: Nice hotel with so so location! Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I stayed at the Merlin Copacabana on my first trip to Rio de Janeiro, some years ago. The hotel is very nice, though its location is not very good. It's situated in the Copacabana area, but a bit far from the beachfront and the neighborood isn't very good. No restaurants around or good shops. The rooms were very nice and large and so were the bathrooms. The breakfasts were superb, I remember, one of the hotel's best features. Plentiful and tasty, with many choices, from breads, several cakes, cheeses, cold meats, fresh juices, yogurts and cereals as well as warm items, sausages, bacon, eggs. Like I said before, I liked the hotel very much but wouldn't stay here again due to its location. Rio is turning more dangerous and Copacabana area isn't one of the safest. If you want to go out at night to have some dinner it can be a bit scary to walk in that area. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: AV. | | | | Hostel Harmonia: Rio's best hostel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Rio is huge. And if you're thinking about looking for the perfect hostel, clean and close to everything, at a nice neighbourhood, then Hostel Harmonia is the place. It's in Ipanema, one of the nicest neighbourhoods in Rio. It's quite safe, and the place itself is great. It's not a big hostel, but it's quite comfortable. And it's 2 blocks from the beach, and one block from a busy street where you can take a bus everywhere. Find it at www.hostels.com
Clean and close to everything. Plus, the people that run it, a swedish and a german guy, are quite helpful. | | | | Apartment Rentals | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Prior to our first trip I had no idea about any accommodation options, but after some extensive on-line research we decided to take the plunge on a rented apartment instead of a hotel. Granted with a hotel there is a certain added perceived security (as in you know what you're going to get), but there are many apartment rental options in Rio that will meet everyone's expectations. Plus it's your own place, you can stock up in the supermarket, relax in your own living room and feel more like you actually live there.
Often the per night pricing of a hotel vs an apartment may not be too different. There were three of us sharing a 3 bedroom apartment on the beach in Ipanema, with A/C, large kitchen, laundry area, living room, 24hr security, cell phone, 2 bathrooms and parking, if you choose to rent a car for approx $65 / night per head, during late March. There are less expensive places available, but this was one of the better ones and really was what helped to make our trip what it was.
