Best in value for Ipanema
Located perfectly across from Poste 9, this hotel is a gem. The hotel is also conveniently located to many fine restaurants and bars in the popular Ipanema neighborhood. Just 2 tiny blocks away from the bustling commercial street RUA VISC de PIRAJA. The staff is professional and spoke amazing English and provided useful tips for my stay. One of the front desk staff, Andres, helped us make a day trip to the nearby surf town of Saquarema - what a find!
As for the room itself, a decent size, the beds were soo comfy as were the pillows! Maids were very thorough about cleaning. The only real drag about the room was no bath (a favorite of mine on vacation, yes a travel snot). Safe was in room that we used on a daily basis.
I requested an ocean view room which, on the higher levels, is a must. The day it was perfect to people watch, great for sunset and later at night, a soothing. After 6 nights at the Best Western Ipanema, I left feeling relaxed and was a bit sad to leave.
Unique Quality: Great one of a kind ocean views.

IPANEMA: Rio´s best district
Ipanema Ipanema is Rio's richest and most chic district. It's less frenzied than Copacabana, more trendy and less decadent. The beach is safer, cleaner. The best shops are there, and the beautiful people as well

HOTEL SOL IPANEMA
$170.00 US for Double occupancy with and Ocean view. $130.00 US for Double occupancy without an Ocean view. Breakfast is included in the daily rate.
Unique Quality: This hotel is just few steps from the beach, it is reasonably priced and a great place to stay while in Rio.
I recently atayed at Sol Ipanema based on reviews read on this site. Everything was exactly as reviewed. Perfect location for beach, shopping, dining;GREAT staff ( specially manager Jesus Claudio- accommodating in every way) , nice rooms, delicious breakfast and everyone was most helpful and went out of their way to make the visit terrific. i was very impressed with the services and value for the money. The showers are great after a warm day touring or at the fab beach across the street from the hotel. This is a real find!

Its an old but very cosy hotel just on the beach of Ipanema. Unfortunatly ther were works on the top and the front of the hotel and its was quite disturbing for the sight. But the direction has decreased the price of the room of 50%... There is a pool on the top and a bar where the Caipirina is very tasty...
Great Beach Hotel--Sol Ipanema

After a 25 day cruise around Cape Horn, my wife and I ended in Rio. Used Trip Advisor to obtain info on what to do and where to stay in Rio. Followed suggestions and selected Sol Ipanema based on location. It turns out that there are other benefits in staying at this hotel ...breakfast included with a large selection of food & beverages plus adequate seating for guests; large clean comfortable rooms; beach towels, chairs and umbrella available for beach goers at nominal cost; great caiparinas at rooftop bar plus check-out was extended until 5 PM since we had a 11 PM flight...no cost. Followed TA advise and used a Rio travel agent, [--], and obtained a rate of $130 + tax per night vs $180 + tax using US based travel sites.
The Girl from Ipanema bar/restaurant is located a block away and offers great food and drink. Strolling the beach area is safe.
Would definitely go back...Tom

OMG this place was the best. If it is still there! Great rooftop pool, think private parties and the most magnificent view. If this place hasn't starred in an independent film I'd be shocked. Decor...striking. Staff fabulous and caring and friendly. It was a most memorable stay.

I think it was Hotel Ipanema. I think $80-150 (US dollars) Relatively cheap (although not hostel-like cheap). OK side view from the 7th floor of Ipanema beach and felt safe.
Good buffet breakfast in am.
Great Value in Ipanema

Sol Ipanema has updated rooms directly accross the street from Poste 9 in Ipanema (what we found to be the best beach in Rio). In addition, it's a short walk to all Ipanema restaurants. We found the staff to be helpful and courteous. All told, we found it to be a great value.
I didn't have many of the same issues as one of the posters with the exception of paying for the safe, which I've found to be common at tourist/budget hotels.
! Both elevators were operational for guests. ! Breakfast never filled up - though it wasn't the greatest breakfast I've ever had. ! Shampoo and conditioner were fine. Though they didn't have moisturizer, which given the sun would be nice - we bought some at a pharmacy two blocks away. ! A/C was pretty straightforward ! I guess I'm ok without a shower or fitness room
I was just looking for a nice, clean room that was in a great location without spending $200+ on a room that I would use as somewhere to sleep while I discovered Rio. Sol Ipanema exceeded my expectations. I would stay there again.
If you are looking for a hotel with all of the amenities, a great restaurant and a good pool, Cesar Park is a few blocks away. It just costs around twice as much. For me, Sol Ipanema was perfect.

Yes, I've stayed there, and recommend it. Comfortable, well-located, very good buffet breakfast. Before you book, though, check whether you can get an ocean-front room in the Hotel Praia Ipanema for the same price (you usually can). This is even better, principally because the rooms have balconies, where you can sip a sundowner while admiring the wonderful view.
