This place rocks!

I love this place! When you're in Rio your options for accommodations are hotels, hostel, or apartments for rent.

I was told by other travelers that this place was much cleaner compared to other hostels. This place is very cosy and there are many chances for you to meet other travelers from different places in the world.

3 guys who were childhood friends own this place and work here as well as additional staff. They were all super friendly.

I've kept in touch with them all since leaving Brazil!

Accommodation costs R$35/night = $12US/night

Unique Quality: This hostel has tons of information about local attractions and nightlife! One of the owners is a musician, therefore, he knows a lot about the different bars and clubs.

I chose not to stay in Ipanema or Copacbana because lots of tourist do. Botafogo Easy Hostel is closely located to bus lines and the metro so you can easily get to other parts of Rio for really cheap!

The official Rio Hostel

I recommend to anyone who is doubting about what hostel to choose out of the official and unofficial list, to stick to the official one.

The official one:

Albergue da Juventude CHAVE DO RIO DE JANEIRO
Endereço: Rua General Dionísio, 63- Botafogo
Fone: (21) 22860303
Site: www.riohostel.msis.com.br/
E-Mail: riohostel@riohostel.com.br

The people working ae adorable ready to help with organizing your visit of
Rio, and they all speak very well english.

The price is about 30$ which is more expensive than average for accomodation in Rio, but it is worth paying the supplement.

Botafogo is safe, you are close to market for quick foodshopping at night, their are busses next to the hostel so as to get to any point in Rio without any problem.

Unique Quality: All rooms are shared one, with an average of about 20/25 beds. But, there is a room of 4, and one of 12 beds, both with their own bathroom, excellent when travelling with a group of people. Make sure to book well in advance, to get the rooms you want!!

Breakfast is GORGEOUS: fresh typical Brasilian fruit, fresh bread and fresh juice...... a great way of starting the day!!!!!!

fun, friends and sightseeing in Rio?

by gypsyblood

I'm planning to be in Rio next month Wed 8th- Monday 13 Dec.

I'm travelling alone so would like to join a tourist group tour (foreigner-oriented) and find fun places to go in the evenings that are cosmopolitan and informal. I like live bands and local culture but would also like to meet some friendly people.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!!

I don't know of any groups you can meet up with but if you stay at a pretty happening hostel you're sure to meet some people. From what I've found there are plenty of fun foreigners coming in and out of Rio at all times. hehehehe. Have fun, I'm sure you will!!

I agree with the other posting....Staying at a hostel with definitely put you in touch with sights to see, nightlife, and other travelers. I stayed in the Botafogo area while in Rio. It's very close to Copacabana and Ipanema. The Lapa area is a cool place to go for night life.

Check out the Botafogo Easy Hostel on my travel page. They have a website and the owner's speak excellent English. One of the owner's plays as a musician for famous Brazilian singers, therefore, he knows a lot about live music venues, clubs, etc. His name is Vitor and hes awesome!

If you stay there tell them all I say hi
