The Best in Rio

This is THE place to stay in Rio de Janeiro. Fasano Hotel was inaugurated in August 2007 and together with the first Fasano in São Paulo are considered the best and most elegant hotels in Brazil. The Rio one was designed by Philippe Starck and keeps with the Fasano style favouring dark wood and clean lines. The hotel is opulent, but no doubt, at a high price. It is located in Ipanema, with exceptional ocean views. The hotel's rooftop swimming pool and bar are only open to hotel guests, but the Fasano Al Mare restaurant on the ground floor is open to anyone willing to pay the price. I did not stay here, unfortunately, but did have an exquisite dinner at the restaurant.

Best hotels in Ipanema

The best hotel is the new Fasano, designed by Philippe Starck; the best-located, the Caesar Park. Both are on the oceanfront. All hotels can arrange sight-seeing trips. As for taxis from the airport, there are several reliable (and slightly more expensive) firms represented by stands just after you pass through Customs: there's nothing to choose between them.

Best, but most expensive Italian cuisine in Rio

by MM212 about Fasano Al Mare

Expect nothing but perfection at Fasano al Mare. This high-end restaurant is located on the ground floor of the recently opened Fasano Hotel (inaugurated in August 2007), which is the most elegant spot in Rio de Janeiro. It also serves the best Italian food in town and perhaps the whole of Brazil (along with its sister restaurant in São Paulo). Designed by Philippe Starck, the restaurant does not lack in aesthetics, and its clientele are equally beautiful. Expect high prices too, but Fasano al Mare is well worth the splurge. Make it the one special meal when visiting Rio, you won't be disappointed.

6 nights in rio

by shabarek

I have a dilemma!! Should I stay for 6 nights in rio from the 7th of may till the 13th or should I stay only for 4 nights and then rent a car and drive around rio, maybe go to sao poalo for 2 nights? what are the nice areas around rio that you suggest me to go at this time of the year? Can reccomend me the best places to dine, drinks, clubs, lounges... I would like to reccomend to trendy and the traditional places. I'm staying at the Fasano hotel, what do you think of it??

If you can afford the Fasano at US$500 a night, you have no dilemma. Do all of it.

Don't miss Porcão Rios, the best bbq in town. Nuth is a very trendy club, you might find Romario and Ronaldo there.

If you need for a trip around Rio, go to Paraty...
In Rio, I enjoyed two restaurants, In Leme Marius crustaceros( crazy) and in Ipanema the Café Venicius (picanha....).
I'm sure you will enjoy this incredible town...

Forget huge, over-crowded SP, with its pollution and traffic jams. Paraty is an excellent recommendation for a side trip, but be warned that roads and driving are both pretty terrible: you might be better off going by bus, or hiring a car with driver. I've had lunch at the Fasano, and thought it good, but over-priced. There are other recommendations in my Rio pages.
