More about Golden Tulip Continental

Avoid

by MauiNoKaOi about Luxor Continental Hotel

This hotel has a very friendly front desk and door person; however, the housekeeping employees are shady. One of the tourist in my tour group caught two of the male housekeepers in her room safe rummaging through her valuables. Apparently the safes are operated by magnetic key cards and they had extra key cards. I also noticed my baggage had been rummaged through but I had nothing of value to steal. To say the least, the employees were fired on the spot by the manager.

Also, outside of the hotel is a local hangout where people party through the entire night ending at 6 pm (very noisey). I observed a guy snorting cocaine on the sidewalk. On top of that, the first night I heard multiple gunshots coming from the barrio. I would not recommend this hotel. I would stay in Ipanema instead. The hotel is nice and comfortable with a decent restaurant.

I never heard of the Grandarrell Ouro Verde Hotel. I have seen the Luxor it is a mid class type hotel. Rooms are cheap and clean. The rooms off season are about $70 per night. It is right smack in the middle Avenieda Atlantica. Saftey is okay during the day and even at night (not really late at night). If its on the weekend then there are lots of people walking around on the beach side. But at night I would only walk on the hotel side. Don’t be alarmed its safe. Just take precaution. Example, would you take a NYC train at 3:00 am in the morning to the south bronx? If you want to stay in Ipanema, which is REALLY NICE. Try this website to see pics of thehotel and other hotels.

The Ouro Verde is a traditional hotel, with a restaurant once famous, but now in a slightly down-at-heel area. The Luxor is a reliable 3* chain.

But I agree that you'd be much better off in Ipanema, for example at the Praia Ipanema or Sol Ipanema. Check out www.ipanema.com.

Hi

Thank you we already booked at the Grandarrelle Ouro Verde Hotel. Is it fine on the internet it had the same rating as the Luxor Continental? It looks quite nice is it in a bad neighbourhood or is it decent enough.I am really worried about the crime situation,or is that seemingly fine?

Thanks for the prices for the hanggliding, and would you recommend the island tour.

What other stuff can you recommend that is seemingly safe.

Kind regards and many thanks once again.

Don't worry, you should be fine at the Ouro Verde. It's just that this part of Copacabana attracts quite a few prostitutes - but don't let them bother you. Rio has become much safer in recent years.
