Bus questions

by wilocrek

What is the name of the main bus station in Rio? Also do buses leave for Buzios and Orou Preto from that station as well?

Re: Bus questions

by rkearns

you're probably thinking of novo rio. that's the main one. yes, you can get a bus to buzios. not sure about ouro preto, but i'm sure if it doesn't go directly, you can catch a transfer that will.

Re: Bus questions

by mircaskirca

Exactly, the buses depart from Sao Paulo rodoviaria Tiete and arrive to rodoviaria Rio Novo in Rio.

Re: Bus questions

by gise25

ok thanks... and do i find taxi service inside he station?? I MEAN safe ones??

Re: Bus questions

by mircaskirca

Yes, you can easily find safe taxi, just outside of the rodoviaria. There is usually a long queue of people waiting for the taxi but it goes quickly and it doesn't take that long to get one.

Safe trip and enjoy Rio! It's a marvelous city!

Travel Tips for Rio de Janeiro

Where most people eat

by suprit1

In Rio you will always find the longest queues for food in the grill restaurants where you help yourself to a plate of food from the buffet and then take it to the counter to be weighed. Most of these restaurants charge around 1.40 to 1.90 reals for 100 grams of food and they are all over the city. The assitant hands you a ticket at the door and then they add a sticker showing the weight and what you owe after you have made your selection. You then pay at the end and they give you your ticket back to hand to the person on the door as you go out. You can choose from a good selection of fish, cooked meats, vegetables, salads, sushi, sweets, ice-creams and cakes. A big bowl of vegetable soup for instance can be had for about £1.00. Drinks are cheap too. The system works really well and because of the fast turnover, the food is freshly cooked. The other restaurants that are really cheap are the Spoletti pasta restaurants. You choose your pasta and up to 8 ingredients which they then cook for you for about 12 reals. These meals are really filling.

THE FAMOUS POSTO SEIS IN COPACABANA

by marcbrazil

As I said above you can divide Copacabana into section, and POSTO SEIS is perhaps themost interesting part of Copacabana Beach, for several reasons, this is the part of the beach closer to another fascinating beach, Ipanema beach, more residential oriented and also it has the best bars and discos in the city.

Another cool reason that you should stay in this area is safety, it is close to a military fortress which also opens for the public, inside you can enjoy many different views of the Ocean including the Sugar Loaf.

There is a very traditional fishemen association in the end of the beach where you can buy fish every morning!

And more other facilities like shops, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and discos!

And also more than 5 groceries!

The easier way to identify this area is spotting the Fortress in the end of the beach!!!

Let the Festivities Begin

by wrldtravler

Get plenty of sleep on the plane ride over cause once your there, there's just no stopping The Party (and I went there for Reveillon 2001, can't imagine what Carnival must be like)!! Swimming in Ipanema at sunset with a Brasilera friend Karina.. holding her in my arms feeling her body next to mine and the water trying to squeeze in between us.. and watching an entire hill-side light up.. (The Favela of Rocinha )

Groovy sidewalks

by Dabs

The sidewalks in Rio, at least the ones we were on in Ipanema and Copacabana, were all made from white and black tiles in groovy patterns. The pattern changed from street to street, I'm pretty sure I took this one somewhere along Copacabana beach.

Go to CCBB (Centro Cultural do Brasil), a cultural centre in the Downtown.
The building is historical and building (visit the lift, it is a masterpiece).
Plenty of exhibitions (cinema, arts, video). Nice café, great archicteture. Take a cab or the Underground (Uruguaiana Station). Nice theatres...
