Should be about R$50-60, depending on where in Ipanema and how well you bargain.

If you take one of the airport cabs available just outside Customs (air-condititioned, payable by credit card, and entirely safe) you'll pay around Rs$75. Normal yellow cabs, more easily available from Departures, one floor below, cost around Rs$40 (cash only). Both are reliable.

This Brazilian newspaper article (in Portuguese--use an online translation engine if needed to read) reports airport to Copacabana fares (on the meter)to be R$38,50. Ipanema is the next beach out/south, a bit further, depending on what part. Therefore, my estimate.
The strategy of going down to Departures to bargain in Portuguese for a flat rate (off the meter) with a driver who has just dropped someone off, and would rather not head back into the city empty, works for some, but is intimidating for others, especially those tired and disoriented off a long flight.

Weather forecast or history

by dvideira

If you want to take a look at the weather forecast or even at the history of any past day and/or years, this is a good link .

This link may be helpful not only to your trip to Rio... It is great when we are planning a trip and wanting to know at which time of the year the weather would suit more our purposes...
The "History & Almanac" part of it shows the variations of temperature, winds, etc, hour by hour of a day.

New Year's Eve

by npsdguy

You should wear white on New Year's Eve. When some Brazilian friends of ours found out that we would be in Rio for New Year's Eve they told us that we had to wear white. We weren't too sure about this at first, but we're glad we took notice. On New Year's Eve just about everyone wears white, with an accent color. It is all in honor of an African Goddess of the sea, to whom the locals make offerings for good look and prosperity in the new year. You can wear accent colors such as red for love, yellow for wealth and green for health. You should never wear black! People also buy flowers and throw them in the sea as a gift to the goddess. On the night and down on the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema you can see many people giving praise, singing and dancing to the goddess and walking down to the waters edge to cast their flowers into the sea.
We're glad we took our whites with us and participated in the fun, it was a great experience!

This Carioca makes like a Vulture.

Is it the altityde of Pao Acucar or is it simply the free spirit let loose when you are with a friend? Who really knows. Let me just say that the touring around together was a fun time and hence more enjoyable and memorable.

BAIACU - THIS ONE IS DONE FOR!

by RafaelTheSecond

One of the examples of our marine fauna in Guanabara Bay was in trouble in Niteroi. The Litoranea Avenue is very famous in Niteroi for fishing!;)

This fish called Baiacu gets twice bigger when he feels threaten, but in that case, no hope was left!;)
