This Hotel is garbage....I would never recommend!
This hotel came complete with cockroaches, spider and ants in the bathroom. The beds had dirty linens, and smelled of urine! The front desk manager was rude...his name is Jorge Santos, I believe. The food was overcooked and the staff was extremely rude. The restaurant was always empty, I figure this is because the food and staff was just so horrible, no one in their right mind would even consider eating in that place. The breakfast buffet was unadequate and very undesirable, the juice was warm, fruit was old, meat was left out, eaggs were soggy, and the tables were dirty!
The lights in our room didnt work and after numerous calls to the front desk we still had no response. We had to use the bathroom in the dark. I suppose it was a blessing, because once the lights were fixed, we saw how horribly dirty it was. The figobar was not cold and was indeed not stocked appropriately. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I will surely never consider this hotel for any further visits to Brazil.
As a side note, the manager was so rude and impolite about absolutely any problems, as if the problems were not his worry. This manager made the stay that much more imbearable.
Unique Quality: Nothing positive to say!

GOT ROBBED...on our first day.... NOT RECOMMENDED.
At our first day at the hotel we asked to rent the lock for the safe which is located inside the closet.... We asked the cleaning lady how to go about getting the lock and key she directed us to the front desk. Both guys at the front desk helped us getting the key. These three individuals were the only ones aware of us having the need for a safe. Well they must have thought we had a lot of money inside it, because when we got back from a long day at the Christ the whole safe had been yanked out of the wall. We called the police, which came quickly but there was nothing they could do, the hotel does not have any video recording as the cameras in the common areas are for display only, and all of the Managers in-charge of the hotel did not show any interest in trying to find out or at least interview the only 3 people in Rio de Janeiro that new we needed a safe..... BTW: nothing else was taken from the room, they left 2 laptops, ipods & electronics, the only other thing they took was the backpack I guess to be able to carry out the safe unsuspected. Also, there were no signs of force entry.... the only keys that were used at the front door were ours and the cleaning lady..... Unbelievable.... days wasted getting new passports and everything else. We still had to pay for our stay. Pay more and dont deal with this type of horrible headache.

I stayed in the Hotel...
I stayed in the Hotel Bandeirantes Othon, in the Copacabana area. I did not get a hotel facing the beach in Copacabana, they are more expensive, and probably just as good.
Unique Quality: It was reasonable, comfortable and clean. With Color TV, your own private bathroom, Restaurant and Bar.

Carnival 2005 High-End Villa
Hello,
A group of us (6-12 people) are looking for a luxury villa in Rio for Carnival 2005. I've found a nice penthouse in Copacabana and a B&B (O Veleiro) on the internet. The penthouse is too small and the B&B looks good but we'd like something more private like a house or villa. Does anyone know of other places?
Thanks for your help.
Christian
Re: Carnival 2005 High-End Villa
Hello,
well, I do not know what you are really looking for, but the problem will be that if you are a group of 6-12 people and want to rent a house (a luxury house or villa) then you won't find that near to Copacabana and Ipanema. There are more apartments to rent for...
if you wish to have a house you need to go farer to maybe Barra da Tijuca beach or even Recreio dos Bandeirantes..
but then you also need to rent a car there, because this places are very far from the city centre.
I know a place outside of Rio (around 150 kms far from there) in Buzios where is offered a nice Villa to stay in:

Other possibilities in Rio or around:

Hope I could help in any way?
