the debret hotel is also great (copa). for the location, they have really reasonable rates compared to the other hotels in the area. the accommodations are pretty standard.

Good value hotel!
This is a very good value hotel located right in front of Copacabana beach. I stayed here for only a night but enjoyed my stay very much.
The room was large and offered a partial view of Copacabana beach, with large windows and a living area. Bathroom was nice and the water pressure was good. Breakfast was a nice buffet with cold and hot items.
There are plenty of good restaurants nearby for lunch or dinner.
Service was very good, with staff going out of their way to help us in anything we needed. I recommend this hotel to anyone who goes to Rio and wants to stay in the Copacabana area in front of the beach and doesn't want to pay much . It's a good quality hotel!

"Yes, we stayed in hotel Debret at Copacabana and we really liked the location
and beautiful view. We paid for 4 nights a little over 900 reals. It was
around $100 canadian and we had the most amazing view. The hotel was not
luxury hotel and some of the furniture were old but I think the view was
worth all the money. The location was excellent as well and this was really
important as we found out later. We could find everything that we wanted in
walking distance. The hotel had a restaurant with a wonderful view as well.
We really enjoyed Rio and I am sure that one day we will be back there."

Debret's fine view
Hotel Okay, food was good, - and just accross teh road from the Beach. Thew views in the morning were magnificent, however the views at night looking down onto help disco, where familys were living on the street below - not so nice.
Unique Quality: No pool, high level restuarant giving good views of beach, sugarload and the flavellas.

Most affordable hotel on the Copa strip
I have stayed here twice and am consistently happy with the price, service and amenities. We stayed in an oceanfront room for around $60(US) and this is a steal considering the prices of equivalent hotels in the area.

Reasonable rates for the location, Carnaval package is pricey, but then again so is everywhere else!
Unique Quality: Great friendly staff - Say 'hi' from the Canadian Stilt Lady to Humberto in Sales
The rooms are smallish, and the hotel is older with few amenities beyond a restaurant and bar, but the price is good, and the staff is great!

Value for money in Copacabana
An older hotel facing Copacabana beach. Nothing fancy, but reasonably well maintained. Rooms are spacious and clean, many with ocean views.
Unique Quality: Breakfast buffet (included) served on top floor with great ocean views.
Lounge with live Brazilian music nightly.

where to stay in rio de janeiro
ipanema's going to be costly and you could stay in copacabana and walk to ipanema. hotel debret has some of the best rates for it's quality and location. i have been happy staying there. if you are staying long term, i have another suggestion. gringomanagement.com. the guy who runs the apts. is named david and he's really great to work with. i've stayed at his place a couple of times. i guess he has about 50 apts. he has some ocean front and some just 2 blocks from copacabana (which is the one i stayed in). it's around $80 per night and totally worth it, especially with another person.

Maracana futbol dec 4th to dec 12th?
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to figure out which day there will be a big soccer game during this week I'll be in rio. How do I find out if Flamengo, Fluminese, Vasco de Gama or Botafogo are playing during this time?
As of right now, I'm planning on staying at Hotel Debret from Dec 4th to Dec 7th, then taking a 2 day trip to either buzios or the falls at igauzu, and then returning to stay in a place prolly in ipanema for the final 2 days.
Any suggestions on how to the schedule of soccer games?
