Sightseeing in Rio

by frequenttraveller28

My husband and I have very limited time for sightseeing (approx. 09.00 - 14.30)before boarding our cruise ship in late December and would like advice on best places to see within such a short time and best mode of transport

If it is a nice clear day, I would choose to either take a tram up Corcovado mountain to see Christ statue or take the cable cars up Sugarloaf (Pao de Acucar). Another option would be to just spend time walking or laying on Ipanema beach. Have a water coconut to drink or caipirinha (Brazilian Drink). If you are there on a Sunday, you could browse the Hippie Fair in Ipanema. Enjoy your trip! -Gary

Sugar Loaf and Cidade do Samba. At weak ends you may find easy traffic for taxi driver.

It is difficult to advice someone when you do not know his (or her) feelings about what to see. But I agree with those who say that, in a clear day, you ought to go to Corcovado hill or Sugar Loaf hill. These are the top of Rio's tourist places.

Hi, there is so much to see in Rio you'll need to make the most of your time! If you have a decent budget, get a cab to whisk you around - the cab can go right up to the top of Corcovado to see the Christ statue. As well as the Christ, the beaches and Sugar Loaf, try and check out the Lapa Steps and Santa Teresa. Medicine for if you get sick

by racheljapi

I got very sick when I was in Rio. I guess you can blame it on lack of sleep and too much activity. Maybe those are one in the same but I really don't think so. Anyway, if you get sick go to a pharmacy and get Trimedal. It takes care of cough, sore throats, fever, aches and pains caused by fever, upset stomach. It takes care of everything. Good thing to keep in your pocket.

Pay for Parking!!

by blaird

Every time we parked a guy walked over to help us parallel park. These guys are just people looking for work and money, so they kind of take over a road and are the unofficial parking guys. Sometimes they are very helpful parking or getting out, and sometimes they really just stand there waiting for a couple reais. I am told it is common practice to pay the 2 reais for parking, which my in-laws did every time they parked.

FEIRA DO NORDESTE - PART FIVE

The Cachaça...you pronounce kashassa...

Yes it is a strong spirit, I love drinking it before the emal, it seems that this water that birds do not drink, goes into your body opening space for loads of food!

But Cachaça now is finally recognized as a brazilian national drink!

And if you know how to drin k, you should try it!

Here I was drinking a very strong Cachaça called MARIBONDO, the same I gave to 2 friends of mine in Montreal and Toronto!
