    Formerly Le Meridien

The hotel is situated facing the beach at the Leme end of Copacabana. It's a 37-storey high modern hotel containing 496 rooms. Its height makes it stand out along the Avenida Atlantica.

I stayed at the hotel when it was Le Meridien, the hotel has now changed owners and is the Iberostar Copacabana. My main memories of the hotel are the spectacular views of the beach from my hotel room & the poolside bar of the outdoor pool. There was a restaurant on the 37th floor but it was a bit too pricey for me to eat there.

A tall hotel on Copacabana beach

This tall (37 floors) hotel is located right accross the Copacabana beach. The rooms are modern and nice, the staff is very helpful, and they have good restaurants and security.

Unique Quality: Some rooms have great views of the beach, there are a few restaurants, a pool, and the beach is right across the streat.

Le Meridien Copacabana

by tee0206 about Le Meridien Copacabana

Our stay was excellent. We enjoyed the hotel very much. It's right on the beach, so the location can't be beat. We absolutely loved the hotel staff--the maid who taught us Portuguese, the server who always remembered that we liked to drink hot chocolate with our breakfast, the always helpful concierge, the guy who actually took us to clubs in Lapa and bought us Brazilian style hot dogs (I had never had a hot dog with corn and eggs on it before). We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the beach service (complimentary chairs and towels on the beach). We definitely recommend Le Meridien Copacabana. The hotel is right by the beach, so the view is great. The pool was nice, too. We always ate breakfast at a table outside, right by the pool.

Great hotel, perfect location

by seansf about Le Meridien Copacabana

Great hotel, beach is directly across the street. Rooms are furnished with a modern style. Rooms have great views of either the beach or Corcovado. I have stayed at this hotel twice and each time have been totally satisfied. Breakfast buffet is great. Location is great.

Le Meridien with the view

by mvtouring about Le Meridien Copacabana

I loved this hotel, just cross the road and you are on the main beach, walk down the road and you are one of the best shopping centres - ok, I did not walk I took a taxi - but you could walk. I did not pay to stay here, so I am not sure what the cost are, but I would think it was not your budget hotel at all. Location in Rio makes this the best place to stay at.

Great Views of Copacabana Beach

by athleticpete about Le Meridien Copacabana

Spent 8 nights in August in a superior room. The views from the room across copacabana beach were fantastic, the service was excellent, the room very comfortable. We were offered an upgrade on arrival to a delux room but did not feel it worth the extra expense and were not dissapointed.
The Saint Honore restaurant is very expensive by Rio standards and did not try it but Cafe Fleuri Restaurant and Bar both served excellent food. The service and the views are fantastic but make sure your room faces the beach looking towards Ipanema as the view towards Sugarloaf is not as good in my opinion.

Nice Property

by cbrock007 about Le Meridien Copacabana

I have stayed in three properties in Rio and this was my favorite on Copacabana Beach. Although it is located on the far end of the beach, I enjoyed the location--it was close to the more residential area of the beach with easy walking distance to some small grocery stores and several restaurants. Although, I wouldn't recommend walking too far at night except on the sidewalks along the beach, it is in a good location.

Rooms were decent size and the buffet was the best I have had in Rio... Stay treated me like royalty and I enjoyed the beach in front of the hotel...

Le Meridien

by klj&a about Le Meridien Copacabana

This is a view from our window of Copacabana beach! The breakfast buffet was superb. The hotel provided towels and had a cordoned off section of the beach.

Le Meridien a good central location for Rio stay

by Trinzeon about Le Meridien Copacabana

I stayed at Le Meridien for 11 nights in July/August 2006. The service was very good, particularly Deborah in the executive lounge. The location, from a beach perspective, was excellent. As I was there for work, I had to travel to central Rio most days. I would recommend not taking a hotel taxi and booking it to you room, as the cost was usually 2X the cost of a standard taxi. THe hotel breakfasts were a bit overpriced, but still a bargain compared to other countries. I had ongoing problems with internet connection in my room, even though the IT staff tried hard to make it work, I oculd never get sustained access.

Access to the domestic airport is painless, but first-timers to Brazil need to be aware that it will be a trek from the international airport (about 40 minutes).

The hotel is not particularly expensive, though using Sheraton points to get a free stay will cost more than you might think. For those people going that route, I would recommend the Sheraton towers and a bike rental down to Copacabana. You will not be missing much in the way of nightlife, since Copacabana is not a great place to be out at night for tourists. It is a landmark on the Copacabana

I'm looking for a delux hotel to stay in rio (not copacabana Palace) but just somewhere with good views and good facilities. Its for my honeymoon so I want it to be special please help. thank you

Re: Please help.......................

I suggest the 5* Cesar Park, on Ipanema beach (the best part of the city). An alternative might be the Sheraton, which has its own beach just beyond Leblon, but it's close to a big slum, and I wouldn't recommend it.
Have a wonderful honeymoon!

I would suggest renting an apartment. YOu can ask to hire a maid relatively cheap to clean or cook. a one bedroom in copa goes for (offseason) $35 - $40 and peak $45 - $50. impanema is slightly more. go to www.rentaflat.com.br
i've used them twice already. great to deal with and the web site has pictures of the apartments
