Has anyone stay or know anything about Ipanema Tower? If so, do you reccommend it? Thanks

Re: Ipanema Tower

Yes, it's a comfortable and well-located apart-hotel: I haven't stayed, but have seen the rooms and have eaten there. Recommended.

As a local, the only thing I can say is that it's very well located.

rio carneval

by georgt

hello, I know it is a little early to try to arrange an hotel accomodation in Rio de janeiro for next year carneval, which fall from the 23 to the 28 of february, but I have the perception that the sooner the better, because rio gets very crowded during such event.
So I am asking VT fellow travellers, if have any idea of decent mid range places I can contact to book, in such advanced notice, a room for $50-$70 per night, on a total stay of 10 days.
Please let me know.
Thanks for your colaboration.

Re: rio carneval

Carnaval accomodation is quite a bit more expensive than regular high season rates and is usually sold in packages of 6-7 nights. (The price may or may not be less for the nights outside the package.) It is probably still a little early for next year's prices to have been published for most places. Booking early gets you more choices, but not cheaper prices. However, IMHO, $50-70 would not buy a "decent mid-range place" during Carnaval. (It buys a lower end hotel or pousada during regular season.) During Carnaval, it would buy a bunk bed in a dorm room at a youth hostel. Google "youth hostels rio" for listings.

I know very well the staying situation in rio during the carnival, if I wanted a high rated hotel I wouldnt have any problem in looking for one, although a tour operator told me that only around september is possible to know the availabilities, perhaps bahiana77 knows his way around rio so well that he can recommend me the right place on the right price range to get the place I need.

Accommodation in Rio de Janeiro

by luluzuton

I am looking for accommodation during Carnival 2009. I'm on a budget so have been looking at hostels. I'm not sure of the best place to base myself. I know that Lapa is close to all the action but am wary that it could be too loud and am worried about safety. I have found a cheap hostel in Botafogo but haven't heard much about this area, is it safe? Would it be too far away from the Sambadrome? Lastly, I was thinking of staying in Copacabana or Impanema but these are further away from the sambadrome - how is the transport with regards to cost and safety. Hopefully somebody out there has some good advice.

Thanks

The subway on Rio serves Copacabana (Siqueira Campos Station/Cardeal Arcoverde Station), Laranjeiras, Ipanema (General Osorio Station).
Sambodromo is near Central Station or President Vargas Station.
I am sendig below the link concerned with Rio's subway:

I usually stay in Che Lagarto in Copacabana. The hostel is beautifully located on Rua Anita Garibaldi, a pleasant street planted with trees, four blocks from the beach and very close to Siqueira Campos metro station.

There are two more Che Lagarto hostels in Rio, one in Copacabana and the other in Ipanema, but I never stayed in none of them.

Wish you a wonderful stay in Rio and hope you'll enjoy the Carnival.

cassiovieggore, she/he is looking for a low budget accomodation (cheap hostel) but I don't think 200 euros is one of the cheapest options - even for Rio.

Re: Accommodation in Rio de Janeiro

by hmoitta

in Rio's Carnaval a good way to get around and don't get stuck in the traffic is to get the metro, so Copacabana is a good choice and Botafogo either if the hostel is near the metro, Botafogo is a safe area in general. Besides that you go to Sambadrome only 1 night and not every night, so it doesn't really matter if you're staying in Ipanema or Copa.
