RIO DE JANEIRO - A Cidade Maravilhosa...
by ValbyDK
In 2003, I stayed one week in Rio at the Lancaster Othon Travel Hotel. The room was a little dark and outdated, but the location right on the Copacabana beach was perfect.
Rio is very beautiful with its location between the mountains and the ocean. And there is a lot to do and see… We hang out at the beautiful beaches, went for some long walks, joined a jeep city tour (booked through our hotel), and much more…
Before I went to Rio, I heard a lot about the crime rate and violence in the city – but we had absolute no problems. I felt safe all the time; there was police (normal and tourist) on nearly every street corner – and we only met very friendly ‘cariocas’ (as the locals are called)…
One of my all time favourite movies is about two young boys from a favela in Rio: Cidade de Deus/City of God...

Hope this info helps.
The Lancaster Othon Hotel is on Copacabana Beach near Lido, and its colorful nightlife. Its 70 rooms, served by three elevators are big and have a separate sitting area with sofa, coffee table, and couches. They are equipped with air conditioning, closet with safety box, refrigerator, private bath, phone, and TV with cable channels in English. It is only twenty minutes from downtown Rio and 30 minutes from the International Airport.
Lancaster Bar and Restaurant on the ground floor and the Sidewalk Bar should take care of tour dinning and refreshment needs.
Other facilities include a beauty parlor, 24-hour room service, free use of beach towels and umbrellas.

Hello Catio,
you will find a lot of info on the homepage of Othon Hotel-Brazil:
http://www.hoteis-othon.com.br/
From what I saw this hotel on Copacabana beach has a free shuttle-service from/to the airport, so be sure to book it with your stay there when you do, okay?
If you need any other advice about Rio de Janeiro or Brazil please contact me!
Have fun in Rio!
Greetings

Hello. I checked the webpages of both hotels,
http://www.rio.rj.gov.br/riotur/pt/hotel/?CodHot=1798
http://www.orlahotel.com.br/
and I would say that Orla Hotel is better located.
If the values are similar, i would go to Orla Hotel BASED ON WEBSITE INFORMATION.

Question regarding hotel policies.....
by DLMelvin86
Me and a friend just booked an 11 night stay at the lancaster othon hotel in copa. It has 2 beds and a living area with sofa so we are gonna see if any friends wanna go also. As in 2 people per bed and maybe one on the couch to lower the huge price of the trip.
But it has come to my attention that u cant bring people to your hotels or certain hotels dont allow this.
Is there any way around this so we can split the room 4 ways instead of 2??
And also i have friends in brasil and i cant invite them back to my hotel to watch the fireworks?

Most Rio hotels don't allow overcrowding, by their definition, in rooms, or "overnight guests" (i.e. "working girls" or boys for that matter, or anyone who could be mistaken for one). If that was the plan, you should have rented an apartment.

I think with this hotel you can book a single, double or triple: if you booked a double and then sneak in extra people, you are effectively stealing. When you filled in the reservation form you entered into a contract with the hotel so naturally enough they aren't going to be happy if you break it (nor would you if the hotel broke it on their side - what would you think if you booked a double room and they decided you could make do with a single bed and a couch?!) If you do bring in additional people overnight, and are caught, you will at the very least have to pay extra and could find yourself on the street as well.
Having guests to visit in your room for an hour or so is a different matter, although some hotels are keener than others to avoid being seen as venues for prostitution.

well with two beds and a living area with couch i should be able to call them and tell them two more guests will be staying with us. two people can sleep to a bed.
surely one could bribe the security or front desk person??
bc the point is to lower the price not have them raise it. lol

You are in a foreign country so play by the rules, bribe someone and maybe find yourself in jail. One place you do not want to have trouble with the police is Brazil. If you did not read the rules regarding the hotel and the guests permitted that's your problem deal with it.
