Five More Restaurants
In Leblon:
¶ Le Coin (Av Ataulfo de Paiva 65) and Le Coin II (Av Gen San Martin, 43)
Good, hearty Brazilian and international cuisine at 'neighborhood restaurants.' Portions big enough for two (or three). Price: under R$30 (US$12).
¶ Barra Brasa (Av Afránio de Melo Franco 133, near Hotel Leblon Palace at the intersection of Avs Ataulfo de Pavia and Melo Franco)
A superb churrascaria, ranking close to Marius in Leme as the best I've tried. It's roomy and clean; its only disadvantage is that the place is very brightly lit. Price: under R$30.
¶ Sushi Leblon (Av Dias Ferreira 256)
The service is very slow, mostly because the place is always packed -- which is why the tables are so close together. The fish is very fresh -- an absolute must for sushi.
¶ Rest Demoiselle (Aeroporto Internacional, Galeão)
An unusually fine buffet for an airport, it also has a la carte service. Buffet price: R$25. Excellent food in all four restaurants:
¶ At Le Coin, 'Tournedor Diplomata" was a perfectly broiled steak at R$29,70. A fine 'Paella a Valenciana' at Le Coin II was R$26.
¶ The meats at Barra Brasa were well prepared and presented and the buffet large and varied -- with everything from salads to sashimi.
¶ At Sushi Leblon, the fish slices are larger than what you'd find in most places -- for about one-fourth what they'd cost in the US. I gorged myself for R$29.
¶ At Demoiselle the service was fast, the Saturday feijoada quite good.
