I had the opportunity to stay...
I had the opportunity to stay in the MIRAMAR PALACE HOTEL of 4 stars located on the Atlantic Avenue with view to the beach of Copacabana. But I could travel several hotels and I can assure them that I save for the price of some, almost all are of very good quality. If their pleasure is the water of the pool and not that of the sea can choose several Hotels although for prices I recommend them The Othon Square located in the same avenue. Buzios presents a cheaper offer but of smaller quality in what concerns to since lodging most of them are Posed that conform to as small departments to very good prices. Walking is Inns of very good quality and I can assure them that the esfuezo is worth it.

I would stay at a hotel on...
I would stay at a hotel on Avenida Atlantica in Copa. We stayed at the Othon Palace. A 5 star hotel. However I would not recommend it as it was not up to 5 star standards in my opinion unless they give you a break on the rates. (I would rate it a 4 star). The air conditioning didn't work in my room and I had to ask them to change my room. The beds were pretty narrow. The work-out room was on the small side with just a few pieces of equipment, and it felt dark inside the lobby. You might consider Copacabana Palace or the Mariott, both on the beach. However I did have a great view from my hotel room. (see pic)

I purchased the room for 4 nights from my travel agent Sabrina at Brazil Tours in Sherman Oaks, California and the cost was $120 a night ( American Money) which includes a spectacular buffet breakfast every morning which was fit for a king.
There is a pool on the roof which provides an outstanding view of the beach below. There is a wonderful bar alongside the pool where you can just relax and take in the sights both at the pool and on the beach below. At night they have a beautiful buffett dinner with some outstanding dishes as well as a singer who sings brazilian songs for your enjoyment

I think it was Hotel Ipanema.
I think it was Hotel Ipanema.
I think $80-150 (US dollars)
Relatively cheap (although not hostel-like cheap). OK side view from the 7th floor of Ipanema beach and felt safe.
Good buffet breakfast in am.

Ocean Hotel, at Copacabana...
Ocean Hotel, at Copacabana Beach. Safe and quiet place to stay in peace. Without personality but good qualities.
About $65 double room, breakfast incl. Rio de Janeiro is a very expensive city. Lots of business people meet there.
There is a swimming pool in the penthouse.

A rule of thumb: The hotels...
A rule of thumb: The hotels near to the prostitution zones are cheaper. The area is not dangerous, just filled with 'working girls' jumping from restaurant to restaurant looking for customers. We stayed in the Martinique, a half block from the water in Copacabana and they charges about $50 US for four of us, breakfast included. Good deal. Renato and Andre, the guys who work the desk are cool and will give you tips on what to do and where to go.
120 reales (less for more nights pre-paid

Rather than attempt to list...
Rather than attempt to list the many ranges of hotels which are offered, let me suggest that you go back up this page to the map of Ipanema, enter the site by clicking on the flag.
There you will find a range of hotels from the highest to the lowest, including hostels. It is one of the best prepared websites for a travel location.
Let me recommend that if you are seriously contemplating a trip to Rio that you copy this into your browser. In the alternative, go back up this page and click in the Useful Information there. It is an exceptional website. Provides info on every range of Hotel from Highest to Hostels.
