Excellent Hotel!

The Marina Palace is located in Leblon, a more upsacle area of Rio, right in front of Leblon beach. I stayed here for 3 nights with my kids and had a very good time.

We had a triple room , which was large, nicely decorated , with airconditioned and comfortable beds. The bathroom was luxurious, with marble and very good toiletries. We had a view of the beach which was amazing. The hotel features a small pool on the terrace with a bar.

The breakfast was plentiful, with cheeses, cold meats, tropical fruits and juices , some warm items and a large variety of cakes and breads.

Staff were all very helpful and friendly and gave me very good advise on restaurants to have dinner. They also have free internet at the business center. The hotel also has a part of the front beach reserved for its guests with chairs sun blinds.

By the time of my stay a brazilian soap opera was being filmed at the lobby and at the beachfront of the hotel. It also passed in Portugal's tv so it was very fun to watch all the actors I already knew from tv filming alive.

Save Your Money

The Marina Palace Hotel is billed as a “4-5 star hotel” but in reality is barely a 2-star. At the time that we went, the pool was closed and there was constant construction (e.g. noise). For a hotel with such a high rating, I would expect the staff to be not only friendly, but also fluent in several languages (including English), but they were neither. The rooms are dated; the bathrooms dark and rusty with mold-stained shower curtains. If we had not already pre-paid for the hotel as part of a package, we would have checked out. It was grossly overpriced and bitterly disappointing. Save your money and stay elsewhere!

Good Hotel, bad option

We had trouble in our trip to Rio, arriving late and without luggage. It was not the hotel's fault, but they gave no help (I don't know if they could!).

We had chosen that hotel because the kids love pools, and, upon arriving, we found the pool closed, because it was winter and cold (for brazilians). So, just to sleep, we could have payed half the price.

After all, we stayed in a good hotel without the chance to "live" it, with all the time lost "chasing" the luggage.

Marina Palace on Leblon Beach

All rooms facing the ocean, room I stayed in was very spacious. Breakfast buffet rich and service friendly and fast, free beach chairs and umbrellas for hotel quests.
Swimming pool on top of the hotel – never went in as ocean was too tempting, but it’s still great place to have a caipirina before heading for the evening.
For the size of the hotel the lobby was very small but I think it is more of a norm in Rio rather than abnormality.
In general, Marina Palace is a good place to stay especially for families with kids as rooms are big and Leblon beach family friendly. Wouldn’t really recommend it to young people, who have party in mind, as it is a bit far from everything (where I went to).

Good hotel at a good neighborhood

Very nice hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Taxis right outside. In a very nice and safe neighborhood.

Unique Quality: It has a small pool at the top but I don't think you would ever use it as you are right next to the beach. However, you can take great photos from the terrace; it has an amazing view of the ocean, Leblon and Ipanema.

Our room also had a great view of the beach.

Marina Palace

Strategically located on Leblon beach, few blocks away from Ipanema and with great views from the top. Has been a slightly dissapointing experience as we were expecting something luxurious and designery but was kind of 3 to 4 star more likely room, top swimming pool and reception. Its sister Marina Suites has much nicer apartments incuding designery ones but its obviously pricier.

Marina Palace-Stay here for a great location.

We stayed here in March of 2003 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is right on Leblon beach which is THE area to see and be seen in Rio. Although the room wasn't anything special, the view of the ocean was spectacular. The pool on top of the building is tiny but once again the views will take your breath away. We paid $100 a night, which we considered fair being that we were oceanfront on one of the best beaches in the world. Recommended.

Unique Quality: Great location.-right across from the beach and walking distance to great shops and restaurants.

Welcome to Rio, I hope you are enjoying yourselves. You can arrange a bus to Paraty from your hotel, or any of the local travel agencies, if you have time go...it is a wonderful trip. In Rio if you must have churasco, then try Porcao Rio, pizza Capricossa in Ipanema, seafood, any of the places along Ave. Atlantica in Copacabana. Traditional Brazilan Nova Capela in Rio Centro. If you just want a place to hang out for a few hours, drink beer, meet the locals (who are always friendly to tourists, even us Americans's) and snack on great bar food, then the bars on the corner of Rua Joanna Angelica and Rua Barao de Torre in Ipanema have great places, try Bar Informal, it's about a three block walk up from the beach. Bar Lagoa is a little further down on Joanna Angelica, across from the Lagoa, and has the best beer in the city, also pretty good food. Have fun.

Yes - at there are buses to Paraty from the Rio Novo bus station. Costa Verde is the bus company, and they have buses several times a day, though if you want to arrive before dark , then you should take the 8:50 or the noon time bus (check bus time).
The journey ranges from 4 to 4.5 hours. The bus station in Parati is very basic, though within walking distance to the historical centre (about 20 minutes walk).
