Miramar Palace Hotel - I Love It! by tijuca Location, location, location. Situated about 2/3's the way down Copacabana Beach, the Miramar Palace Hotel was built in luxurious style on the best part of the beach in time for the 1950 Rio World Cup of Soccer. Generations of travelers and diplomatic corps of many nations made the Miramar Palace Hotel their first home away from home. Old world charm, marble bathrooms, great restaurants, a wonderful staff, and unequaled views of Rio have continued to draw me back over 40 years. The Miramar IS Rio for thousands of world travelers. I lived at this hotel for six (6) months in the 1960's.
Roof top jacuzzi overlooking beautiful Copacabana Beach, roof top bar, old world charm rooms, marble bathrooms, jacuzzi style bathtubs, morning breakfast in your room watching the perfect Sunrise on Copacabana Beach, the sound of the surf, the tempo of the city, topless women in tangas across the street in the sand. Belleza pura! You can swim and body surf in the water all day, unlike Ipanema, where the surf will kick your butt. Note: the surf in front of the Othon Palace Hotel, about midway down Copacabana Beach, will also kick your butt when the tide is coming in! Respect nature's power! Almost forgot to mention the pulling in of the fish nets every morning right in front of the hotel. Help pull them in. I don't think they catch much now, though.
