nice cheap places to eat with music on Avenida Atlantico

by Snej

Hi guys,

Are there cheap places to have supper and enjoy Brazilian music and athmosphere on Avenida Atlantica?

Of countries in S.A., Brazil is not a cheap option, and Rio can be quite expensive. (but the terms cheap and expensive are relative and can mean different things to different people)
Cheap places to eat are more likely to be found on Av. Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, the main shopping street a block back, or some of the side streets. With the beach view generally come higher prices. There are certainly a number restaurants/bars, some with music, on Av. Atlantica.

Travel Tips for Rio de Janeiro

The whole group at the Christ Statue

by b1bob

My fondest memory of Rio de Janeiro was traveling to the Christ Statue by caravan. In one car: Ivan, Fernanda and their 3 children Marcela, Gustavo and Bernardo. Bringing up the rear: Alexandre, Flávia and me.

A notable (but not fond) memoury: leaving Brazil

by b1bob

At 7.30, we left Neila's flat. Ivan, Fernanda, and the lot stayed. All of the sudden, Flávia got a cell phone call from her sisters asking her to meet them at 8.30 for something "very important". Let's stop and think here. Barra Tijuca was on the opposite side of Rio de Janeiro from Petrópolis, about 60 miles (100 km.) away. Even without having to drop me off at the airport, it would have been TOUCH AND GO (a close call). Even though it was mathematically impossible, Alexandre obeyed her wishes. However, there was a traffic jam in Rio that made her meeting absolutely impossible and my making my plane in time questionable. What a bloody shame it would have been if I had one more day to "put up with" the warm weather in Brazil. Then Alexandre missed the turnoff to the airport. We finally got to the airport at 9.21, in plenty of time to catch by 11.50 flight. We got there and the queues were interminable. They were bad enough going to Los Angeles and Miami, but they were even worse in Frankfurt. I promise y'all that if I were going to Frankfurt, I would have just taken the next day's flight out- I would not have gotten in THAT queue. As it was, the queue for the flight to Miami was long. Saying goodbye is always the hardest part of a trip.

THE HARBOUR OF RIO

by RafaelTheSecond

One day I will write much more about him, but our harbour is one of the progressive constructions of Rio that our Second Emperor Pedro II was involved. I had foreseen the growth of the empire, and started immediately teh construction of a larger places where we could export our coffe and also get many products from Europe, our Industry was on the top of the line and in that time we were a POWER among the countries in the Continent. The Porto do rio was ready in 1871. But only in 1910, and the Republic was already established.

Sunscreen

by racheljapi

Yes, the Brazilians you see walking around town and/or sunning on the beach are quite tan. Really, they are. You know what the secret is? The secret is sunscreen. All Brazilians protect themselves from the sun. They use face sunscreen, sunscreen for the body, even sunscreen for the hair. The sun is strong here and I STRONGLY recommend any visitor to follow this custom and use plenty. Yes you can still get tan using a 15 or more. Also, you must re-apply. The worst thing for a tourist is to get badly burned during their trip! Bring some from home, it's expensive to buy on the beach! (But buy the one for your hair in Brasil. You can get it at any drug store or Lojas Americanas. They make great hair products here!)
