royal rio palace

Anyone know about hotel or where we can get a good deal there?

is the area around it relatively safe?

Re: royal rio palace

There are many hotels in Rio. In the South Zone most elegant areas, i.e. Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, rates are higher, because of the proximity of the beaches. If you intend to go to the beach and move around in taxis, hotels at Barra da Tijuca can be a good option, but far from the rest of the city. Flamengo and Catete are not so elegant but also good neighbourhoods in the South side of the city, with less expensive hotels. And there are hotels in downtown area, relatively safe on weekdays, maybe not at night and on weekends. If you intend to visit many places in town, better stay in Copacabana, Flamengo, Catete or Downtown, because of shorter distances and the availability of the metro.

I just have seen the Royal Rio Palace in the internet. Is is located in Copacabana, in the vicinity of the famous Copacabana Palace Hotel and the Copacabana Beach itself. Metro station is also nearby and the area is relatively safe.

Have stayed at this hotel several times. It is very nice with a excellent buffet breakfast. The rooms are spacious and clean. The only problem was with the plumbing. You can here the pipes when water is turned on. Staff was friendly, check-in/check-out swift. It is located about 3/4 blocks from the Copacabana Beach and a 5 minute walk to a Metro stop. Copacabana can be a dangerous area day or night, you might want to look at staying in Ipanema, I have stayed at the Best Western in Ipanema and found it also very nice.

Royal Rio Palace is at Rua Duvivier, very close to Posto 2 in Copacabana beach.
Copacabana is served by many restaurants. The area is relatively safe since you be caution. Don't use hawaiin shirts and don't splurge . The better way to take a walk in Rio is grouping. If you are talkative in spanish/portuguese you may go every spot you want know. Just be far off suspect people. Don't carry at hand notebook and camera. Put the gadgets in a grip-sack. Don't buy with brazilian or american money but use credit card. Don't prove to be rolling in riches to gangs.

The poster above is correct with his information. When I was robbed I was wearing some jeans a T shirt no jewelry, and had my credit card in my shoe. All they got was about 20 brazillian dollars and a pack of cigarettes. Saying that, these muggers, robbers etc know who are tourists and who are not no matter how well you try to blend in. The probelm is these muggers and robbers do it to Brazillians also, everone is fair game for them. Young, middle aged, old, doesn't make any difference to them.

Hotels in Rio

by LynneBynne

Help! We are travelling to rio in December, family of 4. Have read so much about Copacabana v Ipanema.... Basically we want a nice hotel with a nice pool and beach service. Any suggestions? Right now I'm choosing between Le Meridien (Copacabana), Pestana (Copacabana) - this one's a bit pricey, Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza. Anyone who has stayed at any of these or has suggestions on similar properties????? Must have nice pool, not a tiny rooftop lap pool! Also where to stay at Puerto Iguazu? Wanted Cataratas but it's full for our dates. Any other suggestions?

YOu might try the Royal Rio Palace in Copacabana. They have a nice size pool on the roof plus a a bar. The view is very nice. They are located about 2 blocks from the beach. They have an excellent buffet breakfast which is included in the rates. They also have a web site. I think it is www.royalrio.com, not sure, but if you just do a search with hotel name it will bring up the website. I stayed there for 10 days and it was great.

RE: RE: Hotels in Rio

I think you may have the wrong idea about Rio: it's a major city (and ex-capital), bigger than London, not a resort offering hotel "beach service". (Tho' all principal Rio beaches do offer private-enterprise services of chairs, sunshades, drinks, etc.)

The only hotel in the Zona Sul I can think of with a big pool is the Copacabana Palace, and that certainly offers all the luxury you could ask for (at a price). It's not in the best area these days, tho': Ipanema is a much more desirable area, and the best hotel there is the Caesar Park (also expensive). Further afield, there's the Sheraton, with its own big pool and beach, tho' it's too isolated (and close to a major favela, or slum) for anyone who wants to see the city.

Hotels: Copa or Impanema?? Preferences

by RobbyDigi

Hi,

My best friend and me are going to Rio in March. I already had a hotel booked through a travel agent, but it got many negative reviews. (Oceania Copacabana)

Could anyone let me know their preference between Copa and Impa?

Also, can anyone recommend a few hotels that they've had a delightful experience with in your Rio vacation?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best,
Robyn

Hi Robyn,
Ipanema is the best and the safest place to stay in Rio. The beach is fantastic there and the people are the most beautiful in the world. The restaurants and clubs are great and within walking distance. Copa is a little busy and run down.
I stayed in an apartment, but the best place to stay is the CAesar Park Hotel. It's right at the best spot on Ipanema(kind of expensive). Another hotel which looked great was the Ipanema Sol. Another hotel which I passed a number of times and has a good location is theAproador Inn.
Whatever you pick, only stay in Ipanema.
Cheers!!

Would suggest if you are going to stay in Ipanema the Best Western Sol Ipenema is great. I stayed there last year. It is directly across from the beach, and also serves a great buffet breakfast in the morning. Rooms are nice. It is somewhat pricey but you get what you pay for. Another is the Marina All Suites hotel, have not stayed there personnaly but have heard very good things about it. If you want to stay in Copacabana, I would suggest the Royal Rio Palace, an excellent hotel, a 4 star + hotel, located three blocks from the beach. Great buffet breakfast also included, the rooms are great. You should pay about $80.00 USD a night at this property. You can book there hotel and see information about it at www.royalrio.com I stayed at this hotel and will certainly be going back to it. As far as safety is concerned, I did not find any problem in Copacabana area.

the main difference between the 2 beaches is that there is a big prostitution scene in copacabana and that will alsways bring crime in aswell.

you can still have a nice stay in copacabana, but be careful at night there.

be aware that prices for hotels in ipanema are generally around 50% higher than in copacabana.

SOMETHING ABOUT BRAZILIAN ARMY

by RafaelTheSecond

I am glad that our militery forces have excellent taste, right in the entrance of Pista Claudio Coutinho in Praia vermelha I found this militery jeep and it is a LAND ROVER!!!

Sure they do have good taste and lots of money to afford the fuel!;)

England should know about it...

Beach culture is taken very seriously in Brazil. If you want to Ipanema beach wearing shorts and trainers you will get some funny looks from the locals.

Just try and be (or pretend to be) sexy and easy-going! Nothing too difficult really!

AGUA DE COCO

by RafaelTheSecond

Rio is very hot no matter what season we have. We walk alot, we drive very hard and face traffic jams all around, and when we do explore the city our body demands FUEL, and one of the best medicines are AGUA DE COCO.

Coconut water, the americans says COCONUT WATER and the english says COCONUT MILK. I stay with the americans because what we have inside the coconut is WATER, and I tell you, it is a miracle for HANGOVERS!
