Home sweet home -- for 10, make that 11 days!
This hotel on the beach Leblon is the only one in the area directly on the beach. Beautiful views, overlooking the "Rio de Janeiro" can be seen from every room!
Unique Quality: Great pool, excellent view, wonderful restaurant, with amazing breakfast buffet, and friendly helpful staff.

Another 'Luxury' Hotel
On my five visits to Rio de Janeiro I've stayed at the Copacabana Palace and four other hotels. One of them was the Sheraton.
It bills itself as the only hotel in Rio with a private beach. In fact, people from a nearby favela (slum) have easy access to the 'Sheraton beach,' though the hotel's security guards look after guests.
The Sheraton is a high–rise and high–priced 'resort hotel.' Rooms are all right; many parts of the hotel are a bit worn–down.
Its pool is large; its restaurants are good; its shops are all right.
But the Sheraton is far from tourist sites and from Leblon, the southern–most of the main beaches — though I did trek to and from Leblon, along a dubious walkway, a couple of times.
Unique Quality: The views from most rooms are great. The four restaurants — Italian, churrascuria, casual — all serve excellent food.
Service is substandard — and room–service prices are exorbitant.
The hotel has a large workout room and several shops, including a good hairdressing salon.
There's also a 'business' wing that's said to have special services for commercial travelers.

Taxi Fare from GIG to Sheraton Rio Hotel and Resort
What is the "appropriate" generic taxi fare from GIG (Rio International Airport) to the Sheraton Rio Hotel and Resort?? We have heard all kinds of "quotes" and would like to hear from some "experts" who have actually used this type of service. Also, were you satisfied with the taxi, regret it, recommend some other type of transfer service, etc.

Well, way out there at the Sheraton, there's really no other alternative than to use taxis to get to any of the sights or nightlife. And put up with sitting in the traffic quite often.
There are pre-paid taxis from the airport which they will try to sell you as you emerge from customs, and there are the plain old yellow taxis waiting outside, honest and much less expensive on the meter. I'm too cheap and not paranoid enough to even think of the pre-paid.

fro, GIG airport to Sheraton you'll pay 120 reais.
Take tha white cabs - they're the best and have the best price.
