Airrport Transfer to Copacabana, Paraty, and football match tours.....

by rentedcow

I wanted to thank everyone who has replied. I appreciate all the assistance. Three more additional questions.

1. Any suggestions on an Airport transfer to Copacabana?

2. Is it worth taking a tour to go to a football match, I plan on attending the May 15th, Fluminense match against Atltico?

3. Any suggestions on how to get to Paraty from Copacabana?

Like usual, thank you.

joining a football tour is a good idea if you don´t speak portugese and is not familiar with rio de janeiro.
the maracana stadium is not in the best part of town and joinning a tour is a safe option and you generally go in small groups with mini busses.

There are regular buses from Rio de Janeiro Bus Terminal(downtown) to Paraty.Another option would be to take a tour from your hotel, there are plenty of agencies working this route.

1. Getting to and from the airport in Rio is easy. There is an airport bus service REAL. They are comfortable (with AC), safe and cheap (some 6 R$). Buses run from 5:30am until midnight, every 30 minutes. They normally take the route along Avenida Atlantica and they drop passengers off at various hotels in Copacabana. It takes approximately one hour to Copacabana (depending on the number of passengers and the traffic), as the bus is frequently stopping and unloading luggage.

3. Buses from Rio to Paraty go along Costa Verde (260 km). The journey takes about four hours and the bus makes several short stops along the way. Buses leave from Terminal Rodoviaria Novo Rio (www.novorio.com.br) and the company is Costa Verde (www.costaverdetransportes.com.br), tel. 021 2573 1484. Timetable: 06:00, 07:40, 09:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 19:30, 21:00

There are also two companies that offer daily van transport between Rio and Paraty.

Paraty Tours

Travel Tips for Rio de Janeiro

Carnaval Costumes

by e_crowe

I dance samba back in the US and I was in search for a pre-made costume. I found this store in my Frommer's travel guide and found myself in heaven. They have pre-made costumes in addition to everything you'd need to make your own.

*the name of the store is Cacula in downtown Rio (Centro)

Supper with Neila and the lot

by b1bob

Ivan's sister Neila invited us to her flat across the road from the beach on the 17th floor of Residencial Praia da Barra on the 3500 block of Avenida Sernambetiba. You should have seen the 9 of us- Neila, Ivan, Fernanda, Bernardo, Gustavo, Marcela, Alexandre, Flávia, and me- trying to fit in the lift. If any of us had one more piece of bread that morning, it wouldn't have been possible. Neila cooked a 4-cheese pasta, cold cuts, and rice. Absent Guaraná, I had water. Most everybody took a shower before supper. I tried to get one early, but somebody always beat me out. Since there were 9 of us, I took my shower AFTER supper. I felt a lot better after washing away most of the sand and suntan oil.

WE ARE LUCKY

by RafaelTheSecond

Surely we are very lucky not to have bears in our forests, just imagine if we come across with one and will be forced to climb up a tree....hahahaha you would have problems!;)

There are many other trees here of course, and bears are not the problems, there are jaguars and cougars and they have no problem to climb trees, so you just have to be careful and avoid lunch time if you are trekking in some of our woodlands!;)

Sadeira

by agmoose02

If drinking with Brazilians, when anyone says sadeira either tuck in for the long hall or finish your drink and politely leave. The closest ive been able to come to a translation for the concept is "one for the road" and it is something of a Brazilian joke. I have never had a sadeira night that ended before 4am and often this word was uttered well before 10pm and repeated for every round that followed the original

Jogging on the beach

by racheljapi

Cariocas like to be in shape and look good. (I know it's obvious ;-)))))

Anyway, if you feel like jogging or going on a walk, the beach is the perfect place for it. Big tip, don't leave anything on the beach while you go off jogging unless you leave another person with it (same goes for swimming) and try to jog either earlier in the day (before 11am) or after 3pm. The hottest time of the day is 11 to 3 (more or less).

Have fun!
